Everton v Pompey

I must admit I wasn't going into this game with a lot of confidence. Everton usually turn us over at Goodison so the omens weren't good.

A good start obviously settled us down, a fine goal from Defoe got the ball rolling followed by the old one-two and a great finish from Glen Johnson (please sort the barnet out though mate.)
A mass-debate has broken out regarding the scorer of the third with Jermain claiming it had crossed the line before Crouchie rose six inches into the air to make sure. I think Defoe will be awarded it, I would prefer that Crouch was off the mark as it would have taken a bit of pressure off him.
A good all round team performance in a system that obviously suits us, Sean Davis (who I thought would be on his way) put in a barnstorming performance and could of earnt a run in the side.

So it's all about England now, three Pompey players in the squad but no Crouch. I thought he would have been a must for the Andorra game but Mr Capello didn't feel the same.

Off to Portugal in the UEFA Cup...can't wait.

A week in the life of Pompey

Your intrepid reporter also happens to be the busiest man in Portsmouth, not enough hours in the day at the moment.

Pompey v Boro.

Pompey on top for the first 25 minutes then Boro go and score with their first shot on goal. I must admit Jamo didn't seem to open his body up as the ball slid past him and I would say he was at fault.
In the second half Happy Harry changed it around and bought on Utaka and Belhardj, all of a sudden we had some width and the goals came, courtesy of Jermain man Defoe. He should have had more than two and missed a couple of glorious opportunitys, in the end a 2-1 scoreline flattered Boro. I noticed that most papers gave Defoe the man of the match but I would plum for Diarra. Outstanding performance in midfield, one of the best I have seen in a Pompey shirt since the great Prozzie entertained us at The Park.

Pompey v Vitoria SC.

Pompey, 110 years young this year, play their first ever European game. Great atmosphere at Fratton  and a good all round performance to defeat the Portugeezers. Diarra, as ever bossing the midfield, fired us to a 1-0 half time lead, Vitoria helping the cause by missing a penalty.

Defoe then misses a pen for Pompey after being bought down in the box. The second goal isn't long in coming as Traore and Belhadj link up on the left and the later sends a great ball into the box for Defoe to volley home. A third goal would of killed off the tie but it didn't come. Still, taking a clean sheet to Guimaraes is welcome. I think we can score out there so they will have to score four goals to beat us. I can't see it happening to be honest.

City v Pompey

Off to the Middle Eastlands stadium tomorrow which will be a tough game. They way we are playing I am confident of getting something.

There is a rumour going around Pompey at the moment that a Kuwati oil billionaire called Sheik N' Vac is ready to buy the club. Smells a bit iffy to me.

Pompey v Man Utd (25/08/2008)

Well it's nice to be back online after a week without a computer.

A dreaded virus caused it to crash but the efforts of a computer geek (that my wife works with) bought it back to life again. It cost me a bottle of Lamb's Navy Rum but money well spent.

As for football..............hmmm

Chelsea v Pompey preview

As Pompey enter their fifth year as a premier league side they couldn't have wished for an easier start to the season, away to Chelsea on Sunday.

Bearing in mind, in the previous four seasons we have only taken one point from the 'Boys in Blue' ....and seven glorious loses.

I'm still confident we can get 'Big Phil' ranting on the touchline and turn in a solid performance. Will 'Arry (who has currently gone down with 'Rooney Fever' picked up on a pre-season tour of South Africa) be brave and play Crouch and Defoe up front?

I think he will go for Crouch on his own and flood the midfield to try and frustrate Chelsea. I personally think the best way to play Chelsea is to be positive and attack them. I predict a hard fought 0-0 and a good start to the season.

Community shield game

If you can't hit the target from 12 yards you will not win a penalty shoot out...here endeth the first lesson.
