Wigan 0 Aston Villa 4

Well what a week it has been a 2-1 win against the European giants Ajax followed by a 4-0 thumping of Wigan away at the JJB not bad not bad at all.

Many in the press seemed to be predicting after our defeat at Chelsea that our little bubble had burst and that our hopes of challanging the Sky 4 had gone but no one game makes a season. Not a defeat at Chelsea and not a win today at Wigan.

Its going to be a long old season but one thing is for sure we are in better shape than we have been in for years as todays subs at Wigan showed. Picking up splinters on the bench today we had amongst others Sidwell, Carew and Curtis Davies which is some £25m worth of players alone.

Big John found himself on the bench following a late night with a stripper in a club in Birmingham but the dust cloud seems to have settled between him and MON and the goal today will have helped. His antics have certainly done nothing to damage Carew's relationship with the fans judging by the songs coming from Villa's mamouth away following.

Today's offerings included,

"get your tits out for Carew" as the Villa fans removed their shirts

"John Carew, Carew. He is bigger than me and you, going to stay out till 1 or 2 John Carew, Carew"

Nothing it seems can spoil the feel good factor at Villa which was taken to another notch following the win over Ajax on Thursday.

Can we challange the top 4? Who knows but we know one thing we are going to have some fun finding out aren't we big John! Blackburn up next at VP on Wednesday and the game can't come quick enough.

Aston Villa 2 Sunderland 1

Yet another game and yet another 3 points as Martin O'Neill came out on top in the battle of the surley Irishmen ith victory over Roy Keane at Villa Park. The win saw us record our third straight league win and move 3rd in the table.

West Brom 1 Aston Villa 2

6 days, 3 games and 3 away win's the Martin O'Neil machine just keep's on ticking over and the victories just keep on coming, what a week it's been.

Litex Lovech 1 Aston Villa 3

I think the two words that sum up this performance are, job done! After an early scare a lacluster and somewhat dissjointed performance ended with a 1-3 away victory in Bulgeria with Petrov back on home soil scoring the third in a win which should see us reach the group stage.

Spurs 1 Aston Villa 2

Some things just never change do they? Some things in football are just a given not to changing from year to year , Keegan is still taking the easy way out and McLaren is still a idiot. Well it seem's like Spurs v Villa fixture's are one of those thing's.

Villa 0 Liverpool 0

Super Sunday? It was more like soggy Sunday at Villa Park as the both sides failed to light up a miserable afternoon in the Birmingham rain.

What a difference a week makes - Liverpool preview

What a week its been from defeat at Stoke to the signing of Milner and progress in the Uefa cup this week has certainly been eventful and to finish it off this Sunday we welcome Liverpool to Villa Park.

Villa 4 Man City 2

Well well what a start to the season, 3 points, 4 goals and the fastest hat-trick I have ever seen by a Villa player and perhaps the quickest in the Premier League since Fowler all those years ago.

Just under 40'000 were there for the season curtain raiser and with the exception of the couple of thousand Man City fans and perhaps Brad Friedel none will have left without a smile on their face. Villa were scintilating going forward and cut City to ribbons on countless occassions as Young, Barry and Petrov dominated the midfield as City struggled to cope with our pace and flair.

The mind boggles quite what Capello was thinking when he omitted Ashley Young from the England squad if there is a better English player to occupy the wide left position I'm yet to see him. Young, though not amongst the goals was simply brilliant, his cross for the first goal was sublime and could easily be one of the finnest of the season.

The wait is almost over

Hard to believe I know but its here already the new season in all its promise, the highs and lows of the premiership rollercoster are about to begin and I can't wait for the ride.

It seems like five minutes since we were heading down to Upton Park to say goodbye to Mellberg and hello to Europe.

I always look forward to a new season but this season brings with it a level of hope and expectation I've not felt in a very long time as I feel we are on the verge of something special.

So much to do and so little time

Season Preview? Not just yet

With a little over a week to go until the season starts now is traditionally the time you start to see season preview pieces start to crop up on various websites and in the national press and when I sat down to write this I had every intention of joining the club.

However with so much uncertainty still surrounding Villa its perhaps best to try and forget that the opening game is looming large and look at current events at B6.
