Newcastle Fans Stunned At Kevin Keegan Resignation
By Ed Harrison
Newcastle fans are tonight stunned that Mike Ashley has not sided with Kevin Keegan, about who has the final say on who comes and goes as far as players go at the club.
And because of this, Kevin Keegan has announced his resignation from Newcastle United, and issued a statement tonight:
“I’ve been working desperately hard to find a way forward with the directors, but sadly that has not proved possible,”
“It’s my opinion that a manager must have the right to manage and that clubs should not impose upon any manager any player that he does not want.”
We agree with Kevin, and that only shows the people in charge of the club just don't seem to understand how football works. How can you not allow the manager to have control of who he wants brought to the club?
It looks like the discussion of the last three days have ended with no guarantees able to be given to Keegan, and he is not prepared to accept players at the club he just doesn't want.
The Newcastle fans, the Newcastle players and even the City Council, have been calling for Kevin Keegan to remain at the club, and yet amazingly the owner seems to have sided with Dennis Wise, who is a cockney, and that hardly helps.
Apparently Mike is in the US right now, and he is supposed to be traveling back to England, but if the fans' reactions tonight are anything to go by, he will hardly be welcome in Newcastle. Ashley has brought in his own businessmen, such as Derek Llambias as Managing Director at the club, and none of them have any experience in football management, and that says it all.
Yet is appears they are setting the strategy and direction of the club, and fans can only assume that Kevin has been extremely frustrated at events, even before the blow-up that occurred last Monday, when heated words were exchanged between Llambias and Keegan. Apparently players were being bought and sold without Kevin being in the loop.
The fans and the players have still been told nothing, and still don't officially know what is going on. This article is being written an hour after the news has come out and there is still no official word on the Newcastle United Web Site on what has happened.
This is no way to run a football club, and no way to run a business.
Newcastle fans are absolutely stunned and shocked by this news tonight, and hope when they wake up tomorrow, it was just a bad, a very bad - nightmare.
