Newcastle Do Their Fans Proud
By Ed Harrison
Newcastle put on a wonderful display of attacking football this afternoon against European Champions Manchester United, at Old Trafford, and were good value, at the end, for their point.
After surviving a nervous first 20 minutes in which Coloccini, Newcastle's new center-back signing from Deportivo, quickly found out how much quicker the Premier league is to the Spanish League, the Newcastle side played well, and attacked United in an end to end game of flowing football.
This result will give the Newcastle fans renewed heart, and certainly the team looked both well organized and full of spirit, which is of course a hallmark of a Kevin Keegan side.
Repeated news reports of gloom and doom about Newcastle will be swept away not only by this result but by the general display of the Newcastle United side, which was good to say the least .
Certainly, after the first 20 minutes they more than held their own with this strong Manchester side.
New signings Gutierrez and Colccini both had excellent debuts and 21 year-old Danny Guthrie in midfield, also on his Premier league debut for Newcastle, played extremely well with Nucky Butt in central midfiled.
Shay Given made some great saves for Newcastle, and seems to have finally got over his groin injuries of the last two seasons, and looked what he is - one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.
But this result will be a great tonic to the Toon Army - and the fans will now expect to have at last a good season under Kevin Keegan this time around.

Offensive? Report commentThis game certainly made the rest of the premiership take notice.
We have the right man in charge and ashley is proving he's willing to give us the funds no matter what lazy reporters might print.
I still hope man u win the league over chelski and arsenal, they are going to have to play with more passion though if they are to be champions, unlike the first game.
We left old trafford with 2 fingers up at the man u fans, great feeling.

Offensive? Report commentEd, as a longtime reader of nufcblog.com, it doesn't surprise me in the slightest that you're climbing the ladder to greatness. A true voice from a true Geordie, and you do us all proud.
The lads did us all proud this weekend as well. Now it's on to the next!! A win this weekend will blow the roof off of St. James and get the season off to a proper start!!

Offensive? Report commentCongrats Ed and good to see some unbiased (lol) reporting on NUFC.
The match was excellent even though Man U were below par but we also had 1 or 2 good players missing!
Spidey is already loved by the fans and Oba is a Geordie :)

Offensive? Report commentLoved the article Ed accurate and unbiased, congrats, but then we have become accustomed to this high standard on your Blog, which is a MUST for all Geordies.
Oh dear do I see the proverbial bad penny? Its Fernando again!!!

Offensive? Report commentFernando, you were banned from the blog for being a non-nufc fan and generally just baiting everyone on there into pointless arguments for your entertainment.
Well done Ed, fully deserved and www.nufcblog.com is a great site!!!

Offensive? Report commentAnd to think we could have been on one or nothing quite easily after two games. 4 points at this stage is great and I cant wait to see what happens at Arsenal and chat about it on the blog. Good work Ed!
And Fernando I know your team suck but you should never stop supporting your boys!
Comment number: 127596432
Offensive? Report commentGreat to see you here Ed, a good chance to try to balance out some of the more, ehem, 'sensationalist' reporting from the rags. Now all you have to do is shoot down those idiots at the Daily Mail and we'll be properly sorted out as fans.
And as an everyday reader of the blog for the last year or so, my opinion of your contribution Fernando is that little-to-nothing of what you wrote had any validity or insight into Newcastle United and your attempts at baiting genuine NUFC fans was entirely to the detriment of Ed's site; I think you should thank him for putting up with you as long as he did!
Howay the Lads!
