we shouid have a vetrans day like america they know how to treat their vetrens they still have pride in their country and believe their country still has some pride in them having been to iraq twice in recent years i feel the goverment still does not have in place a great aftercare of troops ta and regular

i myself somehow slipped through the system became depressed for a short time with no one to help no one who sort of understood what we went through you only get help if you ask for it how many soldiers want to admit they need help?

its not the thing we do having a vetrens association and a vetrens day will be a good thing and im all for it just need the goverment to pull their finger out and get it sorted

In total agreement,for a veterans day,to remind one and all,that freedom,is earned,and kept,by all generations,past and present,who fought and died,to save the free world...

i have two sons and one waiting to join the armed forces as a mother i am so proud of them but what annoys me most is the fact that our goverment ignore the fact that our boys have to go and buy a lot of things they need cause of a shortage of desert boots etc for them to be able to go to afganistan at home the barracks are a disgrace. what does our goverment do make sure all the immigrsnts are clothed fed and have a nice furnished accomadation and ignore what our boys have gone through for our country. i truly support veterans day

We ask them to defend and die for us but we can't even honour them- what has this country come too.

I 100% agree that we should have a Veterans Day in support n tribute 2 all ex, currently serving n unfortunately deceased servicemen n women.

I am the very proud girlfriend of a currently serving soldier. Hats off 2 each n every 1 of u, there r not the words 2 describe how much i respect n admire ur physical, mental n emotional strength. I luv each n every 1 of u. The job that u do is incredible.

Forces life is a hard life all round, for soldiers n their families, often spending months apart, when they r on operational tour, waiting 4 that dreaded phone call. Sky News is like a picture on the wall in my house, always on, watching n waiting, prayin they will come home safe.

I think it is disgusting how our Armed Forces r treated by our own Government, soldiers being sent into war zones with broken, or worse still, without essential equipment, all because of money.

U cannot put a price on the life of a soldier. Good luck 2 all soldiers who r gearing up 2 go 2 Iraq n Afganistan. My thoughts r with all of u especially my wonderful, fantastic, brave sweetheart. Go n do ur job n come home safe, we need u.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

100% behind you campaign,we cannot do enough to honour our armed forces past and present.

Totally support the campaign, just found this web site www.veteransday.org.uk and it shows there's already a lot going on that most of us don't seem to know about.

I completely support a Veteran's Day. This country should honour and respect the armed forces which have served, and given their lives to defend this country.

I cannot believe that people can be so apathetic about this subject.

The Hornett family support that we should have a Veterans Day. We should all be celebrating this day on a weekend

we my mum, daughter, brothers,&my self feel that they deserve every respect going my dad served in the RAF in ww2 his body was badly burnt but he did return home and met my mum and had us he died when i was 7 from cancer but i did have 7 years with him some children dont see their dads or mums again so we should be very grateful to them as their familys suffer from this it is not something we should be grateful for but i am.

I absolutley and wholeheartedly support Veterans day. Respect for and pride in our armed forces should form part of our National identity, as well as pride and respect for our own country.

We need a veterans day to support our forces from the past present and future . thay have my full respect.

i think it`s disgusting this is not treated as national holiday,my son has just joined the army our family is very proud of him,i hope should anything happen this country would have changed so these vets get the respect and honour they deserve my family and i are very grateful to those who have been and those who continue to go for us.i would like to see those that oppose this mark of respect come face to face with the taliban!!!

I agree that there should be a an armed forces day and I believe that it should be the last weekend in June to coincide with what is now the established Veterans Day we are fortunate in Blackpool this year to have been nominated to host the National Veterans Day on the 27th of June, and to celebrate the award we are surrounding the event with nine days of celebrations with a strong participation from the serving forces of which we are so proud

Respect Cost Nothing

You get a shower to wake up up...
He goes days & weeks without running water

You have a headache, so you ring in sick...
He gets shot at & others are hit, but he keeps moving forward

You protest & don't support the troops...
He fights for your right to do that

You talk badly about your 'friends' when they are'nt around...
He knows he may never see some of his friends again

You complain because of a bill in the post...
He eagarly awaits the mail, to see if he has any letters from home

You think nothing of a text message from a friend...
He holds the letters he gets close & smells his love's perfume

You are ask to do a simple favour...
He does what he is told even if it put his life in danger

You hear jokes about the war & the soldiers...
He hears the gunfire, the bombs, the screams of the wounded and dying

RESPECT COST NOTHING...

Lets have a Veterans Day. Kids today dont know much about the 1st and 2nd world wars, they need to be enlightened. In todays world people need to be reminded of all the conflict around the world and how our armed forces are the people that take on the task of keeping us safe. Wars will always happen and without such men and women who feel it their duty to protect us we could have conflict here on our doorstep. Lets thank them all, raise the flags, put up the buntin, have a street party and let each and every one of them know we think of them as heroes. What a lovely way to clebebrate the freedom they gave us and the security they continue to give........

I have just returned from Arras, northern France, where my great grandfather(241916 west yorkshires James Harry Sharp)was killed on 11/4/1917.My father,my uncle,my son & myself laid a wreath & said a prayer at his memorial in thanks for the sacrifice that he & his pals made.I feel a wave of emotion when I read of our brave lads fighting in Afganistan & Iraq and although nearly 100 years seperate them, the boys need our support now just as they did back then.I & my family feel emensley proud & fully support our troops, good luck & keep your heads down!!

I served in the army for 8 years and don't believe the forces ever got the recognition they deserved. I am totally behind Veterans Day and only wish I could join up again.

As an exserviceman I fully and gladly support "Veterans Day" - the more that can be done for our lads and lassies in the forces the better and our MP's should face up to these facts and start equiping our forces in the front line with superior equipment.

As an ex soldier and current police Officer i am constantly annoyed by the attitudes of people who have given so little to the country which has supported them. These people also expect and demand that we should hear their vociferous lamentations and loud protestations.
These same people live in safety, provded by people who quietly ask little in return, yet criticise the manner in which that safety was obtained.
They seem to forget that the reason they are free to question and criticise is precisely because of the sacrifices that were made and continue to be made every hour of every day by the very brave members of our armed services. Yet we treat them, by and large, so very poorly when we consider that they are no longer able to give good service. We seem to let them and their famillies and friends down at the very time of their short lives when they need us the most.
This shames me so very deeply when we are in their debt. They are often young and in the prime of their lives, yet are so willing to do our bidding. The fact that they remain willing to do this is due in no small way to the fact that they believe in themselves, their friends and their country. We are truly not worthy of the sense of pride that the great majority of us feel when they achieve something on our behalf.
We are a fickle master and often leave them wanting and needing. And yet like a loyal puppy they continue to do their very best for us. I care not that it is done for their own personal reasons, such as in defence of a friend. I care only that this sacrifice should not go un-noticed. That said, I feel that we do already currently have a day when such people should be remembered. I feel we should make that day more accessible and inclusive to encompass all conflicts.
I readily agree that we do not give enough credit to the wearers of Uniforms and we seem to have an inbuilt desire to denigrate, ignore and undermine them. We should be openly proud of them, particularly when they have made the ultimate sacrifice.
We need to strive to ensure that they are never forgotten and are honoured correctly.
None of them revere the wars in which they serve. They simply do their duty.
what a pity we are unable to show any gratitude until it is too late, for a lot of them, to appreciate it.

i totally support the veterans day
id be so glad to be apart of such an event.
people only reconise the bad things that happen in war fare
what about the good things, what people do for others and stuff.
im so glad to be apart of this country and hopefully a future upcoming soldier myself.
i respect ever man and woman who have and/or will serve in upcoming wars and the current war
i pray for those who have died during the wars we have been involved in
R.I.P
we will not forget x x x

My heart fills with pride and I weep when I hear of the exploits of the Lads and Lasses in our forces. I want to be at a parade for their return and I feel that I need to show my respects and stand in silence at any funeral procession. BUT I never get to see any reports in my local press or regional TV news. Let the public be informed of these happenings and I feel that our forces will be amazed at the public response. I am offering any forces personnel Whether injured or not, a chance to do something when they return back home. I give my permission for NOTW to forward any email to me. I am not a wimp. I was a member of HM Police Service and a Publican for 16 years and just want to give something back. God knows they deserve it.

As and ex serviceman that has served in Iraq, and given queeen and country 25 years, its about time these brave men and women get some sort of recognition for the arduous life them and their families have to endure. But please do not let the higher heirachy decide the date, as they will probbably pick a date that they make these brave men and women have to work on. I heard that people were discussing the monday after remembrance, what good is that date, when all the brave men and women of all three services are parading and working to remember those of old.
If the government decide on a date then firstly let the people it concerns decide.

Thank god for the NOTW and all our girls and boys that serve our country. Every day I wonder why they do!! They must feel like the governments toys as they are shipped here and there, depending on what this shambles of a government are currently poking their noses into. It's a pity they don't look after our troops as well as they look after immigrants just arriving into the country they are defending. Why isn't the millions spent on immigration spent on our troops? Perhaps Brown & Co should be made to face what our troops do on a daily basis, whether that be fighting on the front line for someone else's war, living in sub standard accomodation, being forgotten and left when they come home injured or being spat at and abused by worthless individuals that we call the general public. So yes I am fully behind your Veterans Day campaign as should anyone that calls themself british we should praise & support our troops as without them I dread to think where we'd be!! Perhaps the government will donate a day's wages to this worthwhile cause, but then again perhaps they will take there heads out of their backsides and run this country for the sake of the people and not to line their own pockets!!!!

we must have a veterans day. soldiers deserve to be acknowledged for their bravery, not enough is done for them and some of the things they have to witness is not included in the training god bless to them all

HOORAY! At last someone is standing up for the rights of our brave young men, press coverage of obnoxious teenager who abuse the frail and beat upstanding citizens get so much more front page coverage! As the mother of a British solider serving in Iraq my heart bleeds for every parent who wakes sweating and trembling with fear, because the reoccurring nightmare, that your child is screaming your name, whilst dying in agony in a far away place has invaded your troubled sleep again. True heroes they are!

everyday we go on with our lives, not realising there are hundreds of men and women risking theirs for others. They deserve to have our support and be reconigised for there commitment. Having a regular event doing this, they will know their country is behind them and it also gives the everyday people a chance to say thankyou for what they do on a daily basis. They are the true heroes, we thankyou from the bottom of our hearts.

I fully support a Veterans Day. Having recently returned from Baghdad and having served in the forces including NI and the Falklands campaign, I know how much this would mean for so many serving and former soldiers.
Our servicemen and women currently in Iraq and Afganistan are doing heroic work on our behalf and deserve recognition.
Lets see some patriotism in this country.

As an ex Irish Guardsman I fully support your campaign and would like to see the British public take more of an interest in what is happening to our forces and the sacrifices they are making

Thanks for the article you ran on my son Pte Sam Cooper and his comrades on that dreadful night in September of last year. It's great to know they are still being acknowledged for the heroism of that night, but also for what the forces are still doing as we speak.

Everyone I know/work with are in full support of having a day in addition to what we have now, rather like the Americans do, to support those that protect us and have lost their lives doing so...

They deserve to be honoured by all of those they protect...

I was a penpal to one of our fallen heroes in afghanistan last year, and i still feel sad that we never got the chance to meet up,give these brave guys ang girls there veterans day they truly deserve it,god bless them all. xx

Why shouldent we support em for what they are doing and still doing to keep us safe in our country etc..

I fully support a Veteran's Day for the armed forces.
We need to support our armed forces in the same way as we salute our fallen hero's on armistice day.
As an ex-squaddie from the 70/80's today's armed forces face more peril then I did and I had the Falklands, I am so proud of our men and women who are doing our nation proud.
Let this Government give us what we want and make this country proud again.

i am a former member of the Army,i served just over 6years in the Infantry. i am writing to say that with everything i have read, seen and heard about both the Afghan and Iraq war,i am re-joining the Army.
Why?
Simple,i have a brother who went to Afghan and since doing 10months out there he will not talk about what happened or what he did. Also i have a cousin who is in my old unit and went to Iraq, since been back he still has nightmares and screams at night in his sleep, this is a married man with a wife and kids. Both family members are between 20-23.
They have had to grow up fast and i am so,so proud of them.
To add i have lost afew mates in Iraq, sometimes i feel guilty for not staying in and doing my bit to help with the war.It hurts to see so many young brave people out there and so few people back home really care about what is happening. I fully back the veterans day!!!!!

England has three Lions,However Britton has got houndreds of them, each and everyone a serving member of the armed forces. We as a Nation should have a Veterans day to allow us to say a big Thank you to them for looking after us and helping to keep us safe in are beds at night. So from me and my family a big Thank you and may God bless each and every one of you

as a former soldier i firmly beleave we should honour our boys and girls for the work and sacrifices they are making on our behalf it should have been done years ago like the americans

If you dont back this campaign then you really should be ashamed of yourself. These Guys & Gals deserve a veterans day. Time and time again I am constantly reading about our heroes coming back from a conflict and not getting the support and help they deserve, It sickens me that the men in suits are happy to deploy our troops out to the far reaches of know where, and then practically ignore their efforts when they arrive back home.
GIVE THEM A VETERANS DAY!!!!!!!!

I am in total support of a Veteran's Day, our armed forces do a fantastic job and I'm proud to be British. Everyday I take a moment to think about the sacrifices these men & women make for us and I'm truly humbled when I read stories of their courage/bravery/determnation, the list here could be endless! Each and everyone of them has my respect. Thank you.

I think its about time that we had a day to pay our respects and gratitude to our armed forces, they have given so much for their country and now their country should honour them.Ex squaddie and proud!

With all the turmoil and confusion that is in this country and has been for a long time, i feel so proud to see these young men and women risking their lives every day. Then you read and see young thugs roaming our streets terrorising the young and old women and men alike. Lets see if these cowards have the guts to join up and do what our brave young soldiers are going through day in day out. They havent got the guts. I think we have the best forces in the world considering that the government issue spud guns and rubber bands etc to fight with. COME ON THE BRITISH FORCES.

It's about time we had a Veterans Day with a parade and flags to remember and salute our people in the armed forces past and present.

My father was a badly disabled war veteran of the Burma campaign in ww2. Nobody cared about him except me and my mother. When he died it took me 6 months to get money owed to him by the MOD. As he said, the government only cares when they call you up and when the war is over, the spit you back out into civvy street and you're on your own.

Stuff the politically correct brigade about being nationalistic, wave the flag, salute our heroes and show we the people care.

I would fully support veterans day. Our armed forces past and present deserve recognition for the difficult job they do, and for such little pay!! My boyfriend is currently on a six month tour of Afaganistan. Carol Wilkinson who made comment on 8th April may like to take note, soldiers do not have a choice where they are posted and to say she doesn't care is heartless. These men and women deserve our support.

When I travel on our motorways and see our troop vehicles, I always flash my lights and honk the horn to let them know I am grateful to them all for their sacrifice. God Bless you. A real 'Veterans Day' would be great. I'm proud of them all and would love to show it in a more appropriate manner. I would fly the flag of my country, put up the bunting and enjoy the freedom that these soldiers fought for me to enjoy! God Bless you all. x

Quite simply - we need a veterans day, to celebrate. We owe it to the troops of past present and future to thank them for the way we live our life today. If it wasn't for them we might have been here. I am surprised we have to fight for it though, we usually follow America so, so closely it 's hard to know if we are English or American some times.

As a former member of the Royal Navy and having a son currently serving with the Royal Navy, I feel that is important that for once our Service personnel are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.
Has it become a badge of shame to be British and to serve this once proud nation.....it feels like it!

Dont hug a hoodie! Hug a Troop!

Support our Troops
Value them, one day you real might need them!

All i can say is its about time somthing like this was done, to honour the armed forces. thank you all for looking after us all in such
trouble time we live in thank you.
We will never forget.

It's a national disgrace that Veterans Day is NOT a major National event. As a nation we do not seem to appreciate our Armed Forces and the sacrifices that they have made and continue to make not only for the people of the UK but many other downtrodden people all around the World. Forget the politics and remember the sacrifices!
Make Veterans Day a truly national Major event NOW!!!!

as a former royal marines commando i feel a veterans day is the least this country should be doing. i think every soldier, sailor and airman should be given free travel within the uk, they shouldn't have to pay council tax and they should be among the top wage earners in the country. they should also be looked after when they leave the services, when i left i was given a 4 week ressettlement course and then given the big "thank you". not much when you consider that i did three tours of northern ireland and took part in op haven during the first gulf war!

I think when the army was compulsory, the people who had no choice to go to war are brave and deserve some recognision. However, now we have a choice wether to be in the army or not. It is a job, I do not get recognision for doing my job, nurses, doctors, etc do not get the same recognision as these soldiers. I know there wont be many people that gree with me, but that is my opinion, it is a job and they choose to do it.

as an ex soldier we have tried for years to have a veterans day but as usual the goverment are to scared to give us anymore bank holidays as it would cost them (but actually us)money but as you would like it to be at the weekend thay dont have an excuse and also why not bring back the military hospitals for our wounded forces as we need them more now than we ever did in the last 30 years.

We should have a veterans day...and support all our troops....they deserve more recognition and honour...why can we not do what other countries do.

We are British and proud of it...our troops support and defend our Queen....Country ...and US

so come on lets have a Veterans Day FOR ALL OUR TROOPS ...and Honour all those from the 1st WW to present day

i will happily support those who fought for england in the 1st & 2nd world wars but i dont really care about those in the false conflicts (kosovo, afghanistan & iraq)

Praise those who fought for the country, not those who fight for desk ridden cowards

yes let us look across the atlantic to see what they do for there soldiers WHY can we not honour our own soldiers and yes i would like to see a veterans day so come on the sun keep on fighting for our lads we all should be
honoured and proud of them all armen

Thank you News Of the World - we must have a day to support our Armed Forces - it's about time this Government & people of this country get behind our young service personnel. We have a son who is on his 3rd tour of Iraq & we are so proud of him - it's a shame we are in the minority.

I absolutely support your idea of honouring our heroes plus giving them whatever support they need.
My father went through all of WW2 but as he says "It was something we had to do & I am proud of what I did".He was in the navy & saw many things which haunt him to this day.
These guys in Iraq & Afghanistan need all our support, they are getting little from this government in the way of material or anything else.Shoddy & useless equipment being the worst for the job they are doing.
Keep pushing NOTW help us give them what support we all can. This labour misgovernment has shown us all how little they care for our troops welfare.

WHILE I DO NOT AGREE WITH THESE WARS IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN, the boys go where they are told,I THINK OUR ARMED SERVICES "THE BEST IN THE WORLD" ARE TREATED LIKE SOMETHING WE TROD IN BY THIS GOVERNMENT. SO COME ON BROWN LETS TREAT THESE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN WITH THE RESPECT THEY DESERVE AND GIVE THEM THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO DO THE JOB THAT YOU'VE GIVEN THEM. AND GIVE THEM THEIR OWN DAY A VETERANS DAY, THAT THEY, AND THE REST OF THE COUNTRY CAN BE PROUD OF. MAKE THE BOYS FEEL THEY ARE DOING SOMETHING TO BE TROUD OF.

lets have veterans day its what our armed forces deserve. they are all heroes and we should show them how proud we are.keep up the good work.

Time and time again we ask our Armed Forces to step up to the plate and be counted, now it's our turn to step up and cheer each and everyone of them.

Enough is enough, we allow St Patricks day parades, Gay Pride lets have a day to honour one of the main reasons why this country is still free, and the reason why others are able to express their opinions...Our Armed Forces!

As a father with a son in the army i fully support your campaign. All normal men and women know that supporting our armed forces does not mean you support the government and the decisions they make. At the moment we hear only the loudest voices. which are those of the anti forces and fanatics. We need such as the Your newspaper to galvanise support and to encourage respected well known people to lead the British people in the kind of support that Americans give their forces,

Thanks for giving ordinary people the chance to voice their feelings.

They are the bravest of the brave. My son was one of the young marines with Mark when the landmine exploded. I know its affected him deeply but they all put it to the back of their
minds and crack on with the job in hand. Finally this country is waking up i think. The apologists and muslim rabble rousers will hate this... But we hate them. Its our country and the least we can do is stand firm with our troops and show them that we care. God bless them all. My son comes home in two weeks and my god there's gonna be some party

People talk about sportsmen as heroes. They are not! Heroes are people who undertake their chosen profession knowing that they may die at any time; Paramedics, possibly; Firemen, definitely; Policemen, certainly, but Service Personnel? ABSOLUTELY!!! I've read alot of comments about this spineless Government & their attitude to the Armed Forces. I agree with every single one of these comments. We must have a Veterans Day, but this shower will not agree to it, they have no collective conscience for their actions, they just like to spout Soundbites. When was the last time any Government Minister, let alone Brown, turned up at R.A.F. Brize Norton to welcome home a fallen Serviceman or Servicewoman.???

Our son is serving with the Army and is getting ready for yet another tour in AFGAN he is only 21.I served in the eightys and nintys but the soldiers of today have been under the biggest risk for many years, we owe it to all serving personel and veterans to at least one day a year for the whole country to take pride in what they have done and will continue to do for the rest of us. words can not describe how proud we both are of our son and all seving men and women. we salute you.

And many British think Americans are loony!!! It seems we've actually been doing something right for many years.

Your writer is on-spot about the way we acknowledge our service personnel. The only time we have had problems was following the Vietnam war.

It was incomprehensible how poorly these men were treated. Many are just now becoming proud to say who they are. Parents (and many others) have bumper stickers on the cars showing how proud they are of their marine, airman, seaman, etc.

I especially like your idea about putting them to the front of housing and health care lines, etc.

To the naysayers, consider this. If the UK were invaded, what would you do? Stand up and fight or cower behind your mother's skirt? I daresay they would be demanding the services protect them, and then turn around and harrass them upon their return. Who is the coward here?

Please continue to push for Veterans Day. I think the government would have to implement this if the constituents pushed it hard enough. No politician could logically argue against it if the people complain until it is done. Good luck to all, especially ALL our brave active and retired military in your country and mine!

I strongly agree with a veterans day, out of respect for our brave men and women in the armed services past and present.

every one should support veterans day.if certain minoritys in this great land complain about the security we give them while they sleep safe in there beds, tell to go and live in another country..some how they will not, people who heckle uniforms need to hold there heads in shame...EX-ROYAL NAVY.

I like to consider myself (as do most young males) brave, courageous call it what you will, I like to think that in my time of need I will be able to stand up and be counted for. The one that makes somebody say "wow", but lets face it very few people in this world are as brave and courageous as we like to make out, but in this country we can and SHOULD be proud that in our time of need we have the British army to stand up for all of us weather they believe its right to do so is not questioned or doubted they do there job with the up most efficiency, intensity and willingness.

To EVERY man and women in the British forces and to those who have served this great Country of ours I THANK YOU, from the bottom of my heart. I pray that you all come home safely and as quickly as humanly possible.

WE WILL NEVER FORGET……

Im 16 and looking to join the army asap.. and i think kids in school are not taught enough about how the great men and women fight for this country. The majority of teenagers have no respect for what the army do for them. i think Veterans day should happen, we should do the same as the U.S !

I served in the RAF Regiment all be it in peace time, I was in Germany during the cold war, which was bad enough, with hundreds of thousands of Russian troops and tanks just over the border, and planes loaded with nuclear weapons in the skyes 24 hours a day, pretty scary!! but not as scary as being in Iraq or Afghanistan, fighting a cowardly enemy who do not wear uniforms, and pose as civilians when captured. Our troops need all the support we can give them!
WELL DONE LADS

MY DAD SERVED AT THE END OF WW2 MY GRANDAD SERVED IN WW1 AND SAW ACTION AT THE SOMME I WAS NEVER ABLE TO CELABRATE THERE COURAGE IN THIS OUR ENGLAND WE WANT WE NEED TO SEE OUR BOYS BACK CHESTS THRUST OUT MARCHING FORWARD IN FRONT OF GRATEFULL NATION . SO SHOULD WE HAVE A VETERANS DAY I SAY WE MUST HAVE A VETERANS DAY . TO ALL OUR PEOPLE SERVING IN HARMS WAY GOD BLESS AND PROTECT YOU AND I FOR ONE WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU

Being from the Netherlands, I also totally SUPPORT Veterans Day. These guys put their lives on the line and when(if?) they come back they should be treated with respect. Another important, but in this case NOT relevant, question is: "is the cause they fight for right or not". Sometimes it is a completely right cause but sometimes it is only caused by the selfishness and stupidity of some governments or terrorists; nowadays as well as in the past; and our boys (who are sometimes only teenagers) are being sent to their death. In any case it is not the fault of the boys; they only want to do their duty and therefore those veterans deserve to be treated with great RESPECT!

As a proud but concerned mother of a serving British soldier I fully support Veteran’s Day and wish you the very best with your campaign, but I’m not optimistic as I’ve long felt that the British soldiers’ worst enemy has been their own government.
I wear my Thank the Forces and Help for Heroes wristbands with pride and will continue to support the armed services as best I can.

I would love to see a Veterans day to honour our brave service men and women, but i fear due to our spineless government we will not see one.If they could stop Armistice day im sure they would!

Its about time we did something to show the forces that we do support them, that what they do and have done is not in vain. Im sure the majority of the British people would agree. We should follow the examples of the likes of Canada and America, give them a heros welcome when they return from a tour of duty not pamper to the minorities who claim to be insulted by the uniform. Lets start being proud again of our culture, country and the men and women who give their lives and have given their lives for us all too live in a free county.

I would love to see a Veterans day to honour our brave service men and women, but i fear due to our spineless government we will not see one.If they could stop Armistice day im sure they would!

YES WE SHOULD,THESE BRAVE LADS AND GIRLS,HAVE FAMILIES AND THEY ARE WORRID SICK FOR THAT DREADED PHONE CALL.THEY DESEVE ALL OF OUR RESPECT,ITS THE POLITCIONS WHO DECIDE TO GO TO WAR RIGHTLY OR WRONGLY.

As an Ex-RAF serviceman,I back our lads 110%!
They deserve our support, respect and our thanks.A veterans day is a nice idea but do not let it overshadow Remeberance Day.
And if you see a Serviceman/woman in the pub,buy him a pint,it's the least they deserve.

The only time soldiers are respected is when they defend our Country and way of life. do citizens of the free world not realize that these brave young men and women do just that, for us every day. We should be ashamed that we cannot celabrate the bravery of OUR FORCES. As an ex soldier i say we should buy them a drink, ask them how they are , make them feel valued. Do not make them walk in shadows. Any one who thinks they can do better should walk in there shoes to see the reality of what a tour of duty really means.. sometimes i am ashamed to be British. and this one of those times. I and many of my friends salute you

we should definatly have a veterans day,the lads and girls who fight for us and others should be recognised in a massive way!its easy for those people to say we should`nt fight but they really have no clue how brave these soildiers are.i`ll be right at the front when they march past because iam very proud of them all!!!!x

I completely support veterans day. Other countries have done it and not caused up roar. I'm so proud of our troops and admire their strength and courage. They should all be honored.

We should be thanking our soldiers every day of our lives as we sit behind computer screens whilst they fight to keep us safe. This is the least the government can do for these brave young people. You sent them out to fight for their country and they responded immediately. Some have given their lives for the country, now give them something back. Let them have their day they have earned it big time.

HAS A ROYAL BRITISH LEGION WE ALL HOLD THE 11 0F
NOVEMBER AS A DAY TO REMEMBER OUR FALLEN IT IS NOW TIME TO HONOUR ALL OF THE SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE LAST FIFTY YEARS THEY ARE ALL YOUNG
AND DO NOT ASK TO FIGHT BUT WHEN THEY DO THEY DO US PROUD I THINK ITS ABOUT TIME THAT NOT ONLY THIS GOVERMENT BUT EVERY GOVERMENT SHOUD LAY ASIDE ONE DAY FOR VETERANS LETS MAKE IT THE SATURDAY AFTER VETERANS DAY AND MAKE IT A HOLIDAY
COME ON GET A DAY JUST LIKE THE YANKS IF THEY CAN DO IT WHY CANT WE

It's about time we are able to thank and show our admiration, to our very brave and courageuous soliders! I support veterans day here in the uk and I would stand and honour everyone of our brave soldiers with pride!

What a Brilliant Idea!I feel our armed forces both past and present thoroughly deserve all the support we can give them, perhaps if the goverment had given them the support they needed to begin with there would not be so many lives lost needlessly. The whole of the country should be made aware of what our armed forces are having to go through instead of the occasional mention on the news of yet another casualty of war.

These people have given so much for so many now the many should give something back for them. A veterans day is so small amount to give back for what they have seen & given.I can only imagin a small amount they have been through thanks too information that is only now being know about WW1-WW2, when we will learn about modern battles i dont know. A veterans day may let us back home learn.

I am in total support of Veterans day, being an "army wife" i know first hand what our guys go through! I think that the UK needs to start acknowledging that our men and women are being sent to do a job, by our government, its not their choice to be where they are! I think they more than deserve acknowledgement of their bravery.

I think we should have Veterans day because it would show our support to all of the brave people who fought for our country. Also if they hadn't of fought then we might not be here.

Armistice Day is to commemorate the end of the second world war and to remember those that died. A day to celebrate those that fought and survived is what we need but would it not be more suitable have this day as a Bank Holiday....what about on the Monday after Armistice Day? We would then have the Bank Holiday that is now being pertitioned for between August and Christmas and a day to celebrate our military service heroes. Or in October so as not to infringe on the sombre occasion of Rememberance Sunday. Veterans Day in America is celebrated on the 11th November and take note of the word 'celebrated' because this is how Americans feel about their armed forces heroes. Why should we be made to feel ashamed of our service personnel by this Labour government when it is the government that makes the decisions concerning them....who they fight, where they fight whether it be right or wrong.
.........REMEMBER OUR HEROES*........
.........*SALUTE OUR HEROES*.........
.......*CELEBRATE OUR HEROES*........

(if you don't then be ashamed of yourself)

Yes we should remmember our boys in all conflicts, with out them i think the uk would be worce off for it (security).Ex army 23 yrs.

geordie.

I am with you all the way - Airborne!

I think all veterans from all conflicts should have a special day. If it were not for them many of us would not be here today.Remember them all with pride.

WHILE I DO NOT AGREE WITH THESE WARS IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN, I THINK OUR ARMED SERVICES "THE BEST IN THE WORLD" ARE TREATED LIKE SOMETHING WE TROD IN BY THIS GOVERNMENT. SO COME ON BROWN LETS TREAT THESE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN WITH THE RESPECT THEY DESERVE AND GIVE THEM THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO DO THE JOB THAT YOU'VE GIVEN THEM. AND GIVE THEM THEIR OWN DAY A VETERANS DAY, THAT THEY, AND THE REST OF THE COUNTRY CAN BE PROUD OF.

all our armed forces deserve to be honoured, for their sterling work at home and abroad,of course the mealy mouthed anti british and general rabble rousers will throw their hands in the air and say we are gloriyfying war,but as a nation we are at war with a lot of people who hate the british way of life,a veterans day, should be made to fall on a weekend and should be fully supported by all true patriots, and thank our forces for their sacrifice and the difficult job they perform.

When will this spineless government do something? I whole heartedly the call for Veterans Day. A day for remembering not only the fallen, but those suffering because of the actions of todays politicians.
Our surviving veterans are not even being fairly compensated for their injuries. How many of our brave men and women, suffering limb loss, mental and other war wounds are being fully compensated?Compensation for loss of limbs and total incapacity amounts to only a maximum of £380,000. That's all. That's all they will ever get. Many more wounded and disabled servicemen and women get in reality, far far less.
It is such a pity that the likes of Tony Blair who committed our service personnel to this dreadful Middle East conflict didn't see fit to offer up his own son's to his beliefs. Instead daddy protected them by keeping them away and they avoided any danger by going to university and keeping well clear.

A Veterans Day during the summer would be ideal as it would be accessible to the whole nation.Events such as the VE Day Celebrations were well attended all over the UK surely it is time to organise it properly into honouring the very best our people.

I totally support our Soldiers and Veterans day. My brother was a Canadian soldier and was killed in Afghanistan on sept 3rd 2006, fighting against taliban insurgents. We will never forget xxx

I would love to see a day to celibrate our armed services, these are the people that defend and protect our shores, they are put into war zones that we should not be in, but not into old colonies where murder and fear rule. It would be a chance to wave the flag of this country and for our people. But I can never see it happen, due to the fear of who may be upset. Our incompetent and pocket loading government and the others prior to this lot are to blame for allowing the PC brigade to have to much say.

I fully support Veteran's Day. However until we obtain a government that has a bit of back bone, it will never happen. We should celebrate like America, New Zealand and Australia. But if we can't even put up a Christmas Tree up for fear of upsetting anyone. How will we manage to celebrate our Veteran's without fear of upsetting the Germans/Muslims etc...

Veterans Day - Isn't that Nov 11th - Armistice Day?

Proud to have been a soldier.

==========

"Where are you going, Young Fellow My Lad,
On this glittering morn of May?"
"I'm going to join the Colours, Dad;
They're looking for men, they say."
"But you're only a boy, Young Fellow My Lad;
You aren't obliged to go."
"I'm seventeen and a quarter, Dad,
And ever so strong, you know."

* * * *

"So you're off to France, Young Fellow My Lad,
And you're looking so fit and bright."
"I'm terribly sorry to leave you, Dad,
But I feel that I'm doing right."
"God bless you and keep you, Young Fellow My Lad,
You're all of my life, you know."
"Don't worry. I'll soon be back, dear Dad,
And I'm awfully proud to go."

* * * *

"Why don't you write, Young Fellow My Lad?
I watch for the post each day;
And I miss you so, and I'm awfully sad,
And it's months since you went away.
And I've had the fire in the parlour lit,
And I'm keeping it burning bright
Till my boy comes home; and here I sit
Into the quiet night.

* * * *

"What is the matter, Young Fellow My Lad?
No letter again to-day.
Why did the postman look so sad,
And sigh as he turned away?
I hear them tell that we've gained new ground,
But a terrible price we've paid:
God grant, my boy, that you're safe and sound;
But oh I'm afraid, afraid."

* * * *

"They've told me the truth, Young Fellow My Lad:
You'll never come back again:
(Oh God! the dreams and the dreams I've had,
and the hopes I've nursed in vain!)
For you passed in the night, Young Fellow My Lad,
And you proved in the cruel test
Of the screaming shell and the battle hell
That my boy was one of the best.
"So you'll live, you'll live, Young Fellow My Lad,
In the gleam of the evening star,
In the wood-note wild and the laugh of the child,
In all sweet things that are.
And you'll never die, my wonderful boy,
While life is noble and true;
For all our beauty and hope and joy
We will owe to our lads like you."

I totally support that we the UK should have a Veteran's Day - we need to be able to say thank you on a formal note to all of our current and ex- armed forces - we live in a voluntary society were these men & women are not forced to join up, but through their work are forced to go to war and act as peace keepers in a hostile environment. Take a look at how Australia and New Zealand celebrate ANZAC Day - that is the kind of ceremony/day we in the UK should look at adopting. Thanks.
