REAL IN FOR FABREGAS

EXCLUSIVE from DAVID HARRISON in Johannesburg

REAL MADRID will step up their pursuit of Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas after conceding defeat in the battle to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

Manchester United’s insistence they will not sell their star winger has finally been accepted by the Spanish giants.

Real chiefs have run out of patience with United’s stance and Ronaldo’s refusal to ask for a transfer, so have made former Barcelona trainee Fabregas their new No 1 target.

Ronaldo's done nothing wrong, says Fergie: Click here for full story

300cescfabregasSpanish sources are claiming to have made two approaches to Fabregas’ representatives and were told he wants to stay at Arsenal for at least one more year.

But, as United will testify, Real do not give up easily and will try to prise him away before the August 31 transfer deadline.

Bank

The Gunners have had had to fight off repeated attempts by Barcelona to lure Fabregas back to Spain. He was one of the stars of the national team that won the Euro 2008 finals and most Spaniards want to see him back playing in his homeland.

But Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will not entertain any idea of selling his midfield maestro and will tell Real and Barca he is not for sale.

However, the Gunners have a history of selling their best players and Real have shown with their pursuit of Ronaldo they will break the bank with offers up to £70million for men that they really want.

Real are also keen on Valencia striker David Villa and have spoken to Hamburg about their midfield ace Rafael van der Vaart.

A fresh enquiry has been made to AC Milan over Brazilian superstar Kaka, while Werder Bremen’s attacking midfielder Diego is another on the Real hit-list.

What you seem to forget is that Cesc is a Barcelona boy, a fan. He would never go to Madrid, he'll stay at Arsenal till they want to sell him not for 'one more year'. Cesc has clearly stated on more than once occasion that he is happy to stay at Arsenal for life so why would he sign for Madrid ?

I Hope cesc stays for as long as he can. Hes already a legend and hes so young. I think I could take any player leaving Arsenal as one player doesnt make a team, but I could not lose cesc.

Oh dear, this old chestnut rearing its ugly head yet again. Year in, year out its the same old story and the same old answer "he's not for sale".
Now what part of that do you think they don't understand?

Cesc is a legend and is not for sale period..Cesc hope u reading these comments u priceless.
Peter

"Mad-Rid" have no shame! If they think that they can afford 'Fab' when they couldn't afford 'Skippy,' then they are truely mad! It will never happen, especially as he has Barca in his blood!

fabregas will not go anywhere unlike certain other players he loves the club and will stay for life

another rat leaving a sinking ship!

Cesc is not a money grubbin like helb ade and ronnie he is a Arsenal fan let alone a footballer and the child of ARSENAL we breast fead him and like a mother and child he will never leave her side

Cesc Worlds Best Midfielder Would have him in or team ahead of kaka and messi together

"Cesc,s not going anywhere, he is loyal". When are you Arsenal fools going to wake up, of course he is going to leave maybe not this year because of time but next year he will go for sure. A player of his quality is wasted at Arsenal now. The days of winning things have gone, your best players have left or are trying too. (Van Persie rumoured to be fed up and also looking elsewhere). Your manager has said you are a selling club. Cesc knows his future lies elsewhere if he wants to achieve things. Chelsea (my team) or Man united would be his best moves if he wants to win things.

There is no way he will go to Madrid as hes a Barca fan. Yes he'll prob end up at the Nou Camp eventually, but I'd say in 3-4 years time.

AT SOME POINT THAT CESC WILL BE CASHED AND FAB KNOWS THAT AS WELL. HE WONT GO BACK TO SPAIN UNTIL HE HAS ONE AT LEAST ONE PREMIER TITLE AND LETS BE HONEST THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN WITH THE CRUMBLING ARSENAL.

I hope they unsettle the lad at least. In closed season its been great watching Arsenal falling apart at the seams.

I agree with Ian, Arsenal are a selling club, and he will leave probably next year and everyone knows as well as i do, anything can happen in football he will probably end up still in the premier with Man utd.

He will go next year probably sell for £28,£33 million and he will end up In Italy or Chelsea or Man UTD.

He is indeed a wonderful player to watch. Passing, tackling, shooting the chap will only get better. Arsenal do play some fantastic football and also have a spectacular ground but they do seem to be falling off the radar in recent years and unfortunately I cant see them competing for the crown of the premiership again. But one thing that concerns me particularly with Arsenal is once the lad has driven out of the ground after training in his 80k plus car he is faced with the real Arsenal which is in fact a ghastly place. We went for an away game last (Chelsea) and even the fans look different (very unwashed and dressed like mechanics)we went for a meal afterwards in the area and my friend had his range rover scratched and another got mugged and had his I phone stolen. Why on earth would any player that earns good money want to go to Arsenal it is the worst place we have ever been to. My friend calls it the toilet of London but I would rather put my head down a loo then ever go there again.

Well Arsenal are what's known as a "selling club" - so, naturally, Francesc Fabregas - just as with every other player at the club - will be available.

I think the Arsenal board would consider a bid of £20m to be a good price for him - after all, you poached him from Barcelona for nothing, so why should Arsenal be greedy and stand in his way of joining a big club? He's proved he can be the big fish in a small pond - now it's time to jump into the sea and win trophies.

Fabregas to leave this summer for £22m - mark my words. That's good money too Arsenal fans, £22m profit - spend it wisely, maybe Wenger can buy a few more 15/16yo's that he'll sell when they become good too.

Timmy TooShooz - what are you talking about??? £22m?? i would never sell fabregas and if, and thats a big if, it would be in the region of £70m. i am fed up of Arsenal producing talent and selling for less than other teams sell lesser players. i mean David Bentley is being valued at £20m now, are you suggesting he is on the same level as cesc fabregas.... you are having a laugh! Arsenal are not falling apart at the seams and it would be niave to suggest we are... we were written off last season and prooved critics wrong abiet a poor ending. as long as arsenal pack there stadium we will always be a massive club, i just believe we need more experienced talent and maybe increase our wage structure but still keep it capped but at a higher level to compete with other clubs.

Every season we get the same old twoddle, will he stay, will he go? As long as Blatter and Platini are in charge this will never change. We need someone to enforce the meaning of 'contract' and to fine heavily clubs like Chelsea, Man Utd., Real, Barcelona and the likes for illegal approaches. At the moment it's a free for all and if ever any club was lucky enough to be found guilty then all they get fined is a weeks wages. Keep your grubby mits off Ces Fabregas!!!

Where are the FIFA and EUFA officials.Blatter and Platini are there for the money only.
This is their job to tell REAL Madrid officially to stop haressing players under contract with another club.First they went for Ronaldo and now when they have no chance they want to creat trouble to Arsenal. Why is it that it is always the same teams
Real, Barcellona, Milan and Inter.
It is about time that the directors of English clubs start being rude to these clubs.
Wake up WENGER, TELL THEM TO F.......
alemess

I’m a United fan, but for the love of god I hope he stays at Arsenal. They made him, they need him and so does the premiership

LONG LIVE SIR ALEX

all the people who think fabregas is going to go to Chelsea or Man utd are either 12 years old or have been playing too many football management games, its not going to happen in real life. Were not a 'selling club', were simply willing to sell overrated players like hleb (the least effective player in the world), adebayor (bottles it in the big matches) and an ageing henry for large amounts of money. Barcelona or Real Madrid possibly for cesc, but probably not for another season or two

Blatter and Platini are under REAL payrole

Same old Ballacks from Chelsea supporters. Why would Cesc join Chelsea and play boring football. I would remind you that all the players at Chelsea are only there for the money, ask Cashley or Drogba.
I would remind you that AFC have won the league 13 times, Chelsea big club, your not even as little as Spurs, are you going to advertise in the papers to sell seats again this season?

Brian Ashford Russell,
Great post mate!
"the toilet of London" and "very unwashed and dressed like mechanics" are priceless comments!!
I will be laughing at those all day!
P.S. not so funny now is it gooners, Real after your best player instead of ours!
The only difference is, we don't want Ronaldo, whereas you are sunk without Fab!!
Roll on the new season!

Where do these stories come from, Arsenal aint no selling club. We have sold Hleb (9 goals in 3 seasons), Gilberto who has lost his pace, Lehmann who is 40 years old and Flamini who wanted the money and left on a free. If we were a selling club then Ade would have gone for the £24mil that we were offered, so please stop making up these stories and do some real journolisim. Also name 1 player who has left Arsenal that has gone on to do better, Wenger knows when the time is right and I would trust him more than any hack. Cesc has said many times that he will go back to Spain, but only Barca and only after he has done the business with Arsenal, he also knows that he will be the Arsenal captain soon.

Ant761 - you don't want Ronaldo? take away his 40 goals last year, single handedly winning you games that you didnt deserve to win and you would have finished 3rd at best. Who will get those goals from that position when he is gone? Eagles?!!!

chelski fans r so stupid! why would he wanna die of bordom at chelski. Arseanl only real club for fabregas. no1 gave arsenal a chance last season but we came very close to winning it n would of if it werent for injuries.

Just because he is a Barcelona boy dont mean he wont go to Madrid. Arsenal fans stop trying to convince yourselves. O'shea supports Liverpool and Carragher is a blue nose, it has no significance of who you support as a boy money talks

arsenal big club? not any more.

I am a Real Madrid fan and i would just like to say that as much as i would love to see Fabregas and Ronaldo in the Real shirt, they should both stay in the premier league as playing in madrid may do more harm than good for their careers. i dont think real r looking for the next big player or star cos we have already gotten a star studded team as it is..they probably want the next david beckham, someone solely for mercharndise purpose.
I also do not agree with them trying to unsettle players who are still under contracts at their clubs and i wonder why they have not been punished for their actions. But to be honest, in football these days, most players and agents do not respect the term contract and that issue needs to be addressed. Also, i would also like Ronaldo to remember what happened to McMannaman, Gravesen, Owen (who played well i must say) and also Henry who is now at Barcelona.... the grass is not always greener on the other side!

RAUL IS CAPTAIN AT REAL, BUT HE WAS A DIE HARD ATLETICO FAN AS A BOY, PLAYING FOR REAL IS THE PINNACLE OF ANYONES CAREER, I DONT KNOW WHY BUT EVERYONE KNOWS IT, BUT PRETENDS THAT IT IS THEIR CLUB BECAUSE THEY ARE ONLY A FAN OF THEIR OWN BIG CLUB (UTD, ARSENAL, CHELSEA, LIVERPOOL)WHAT THESE FANS HAVE GOT TO REMEMBER IS THAT PLAYING AND SUPPORTING ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS ALTOGETHER

If you think he would end up at Chelsea or Man Utd your an idiot. Noway would he leave his beloved Arsenal for that. If anything he will leave Arsenal when hes 28+ to leave for spanish la liga. As always everyone writes Arsenal off early & look how much we dominated the season with fantastic football that redrom dreams of.

I do not think that Fabregas will leave Arsenal this summer. As for the future, nobody knows for certain; except Fabregas himself.
If Arsenal does not manage to win anything come next May (2009) then it might place some pressure on young shoulders and I do not know what decision he will come up with.
He is such a talent and he should be playing and winning trophies every year. So far he has only won the FA Cup (and Community Shield) with Arsenal; both of which were three years ago. The trophy cabinet has remained securely locked since then, with only the cleaner opening it to dust around the trophies of old.
There may be a condicio sine qua non, or as we say in English, a condition that is absolutely necessary, if Fabregas is to commit his future to Arsenal. The condition may be that they need to be winning top honours, and by that I mean the Champions League and the Premier League trophies, and not just competing for them.
Yes, he has said that he loves Arsenal and he is happy there, but how long will that last if he sees Arsenal selling all their top players at the end of every season?
Then you also have to look at it in a financial sense; something that is happening more and more these days. Arsenal are not the top wage payers in the league by a long shot, if Fabregas see players that are not as talented as he is, earning up to £50 000 more a week at another club, then he may start to question that also.
At this time, and by the word of Arsene Wenger himself, Arsenal are a selling club and so will have to acquiesce with this proviso whilst they pay off a debt that was incurred by the building of the new stadium; which is beautiful by the way. Arsene Wenger even quoted a period of seventeen years. Yes, I did say seventeen years. I read this in an article and so do not know how accurate the statement actually was, or whether it was a permutation of a far larger interview fabricated to evoke a dramatic article.
At the end of the day though, Arsenal are losing top players faster than they can produce them off the Arsene Wenger conveyer belt of fructuous stars. How long will it take before Fabregas joins that migration of talent? Next year may be a good guess for some if they don’t win big; however, the summer of 2010 may be a more accurate estimation though and the time I believe he will go if Arsenal fail to win big before then.

From a real gooner, cesc is going no where. chelsea fans should remember that their club spent millions on players/stealing other club players and then did not win anything last season.spurs won a cup from them on a lower budget hey hey

In reply to Dave's comments about Fabregas being a "Barcelona Boy" and a "Fan" - well he wasn't that big a fan when he walked away from the Nou Camp to join Arsenal, so what would stop him joing Real. Wake up and smell the coffee.

Cesc will only ever return to Barcelona when he has done everything he wants to do in England. He wont join United/Chelsea as he hates both clubs with a passion. Likewise he won't go to Madrid either. He will stay with Arsenal a few more years then go back to Spain when he is ready and has said so in plenty of interviews.

Also, "Arsenal toilets of London" is also a silly comment considering we got the best stadium in London (out of the club teams anyway) and likewise a much better area. Obviously if your silly enough to get mugged...then thats your own fault.

People can talk all they like...but no team is a one man club, if Fabregas did leave then someone else would fill his boots, same with Ronaldo, same with Torres etc.

Also with this selling club business...Barca, Real, Ac Milan & Inter are top of the food chains, with United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayern (and a few others) being the next down the chain...so in affect most of the english clubs are selling clubs to the Milans & Real/Barca, only difference is that with Wenger he lets players go when he feels they are past there best and gets a very good return on them having got the best years out of there career.

The Arsenal will still be up there this season.

apparently real mad ridiculous want 2 buy everybody so their trick is going public trying to put an unconfortable situation between big clubs and their key player i tell u what?if it didnt work with ronalgo it will never do with cesc

If madrid offer more money than arsenal and they agree a fee, he will be away. Look across the city at I love chelsea kiss the badge lampard. £££ bottom dollar. Players are out to get as much as they can, even when they have enough money as it is to run a small country for a year.

The trend of using charitable organisations names logo's etc on Football shirts is a great idea to get serious messages across. I wonder who will be brave enough to use the South Sea Bubble Company on their shirts? The money being touted around now for players transfer fees and salaries has rocketed in the past few years. Buying success in sport compared to nurturing it has some classic examples in history. I can not believe that players or their agents generally give a toss for the long term future of the game or the clubs that are providing their luxurious lifestyles. I would be very impressed if someone as iconic as Cesc said I have committed myself to Arsenal for a period of my contract,I will do my best to win everything, that is my job!I get paid on results so will expect bonus's with every trophy I lift. Moving to the duopoly of La Liga or the Milan's, or God forbid the MLS, is what all the ageing stars appear to be up to now, not young talent who want to compete in the Prem and show their talent every week.

Im a Man U fan and i have to say the people who say
Arsenal are finished are just in a world of there own.

Yes Arsenal have been selling players but every club does and when they do all the papers and fans jump on the case then when they produce the goods the following season everyone then says it was good business so only time will tell.

But what i would say is Arsenal need to buy some big names and experience its all good buying unknown players on the cheap and developing them into good players but you need the quality and experience to win the big trophies.

The biggest mistake would be to sell Fabregas because if a club cant keep hold of there best player then what chance have they got of convincing big names to come to them

Its the same with Ronaldo if United sold him to R.Madrid then thats saying that R.Madrid is a bigger place to play and that United are not a good enough or big enough club to keep hold of their talent.

I hope that Fabregas will stay at Arsenal or if he did leave id love for him to come to United as only overpaid arrogant players who are in the sport for money not for the love of the sport go to chelsea and that doesnt describe Cesc :)

He will go to Barcelona eventually. Cetainly not to Real Madrid. Not a chance.

Fabregas is not going and if I was his advisor, I would tell him not to go! Fabregas is the type of player who should be playing games all the time when he's fit. At this moment, Fabregas is irreplacable and if he goes to Real, he will be on the bench! The same goes for Ronaldo! They should both stay and play with the best English teams with the best managers!!!

If Arsenal keep selling players then we have to question the boards ambitions
Bring back David Dean

People who compare the hatred between pool and everton or manusa and citeh as being similar to barca v real madrid clearly are clueless.

There is no comparison. Read up a bit on the whole history, especially the Franco period.

Cesc would rather eat his own **** than sign for real.

He might leave to go to barca one day, but there is less than zero chance of him playing for real.

hope both man u and arsenal tell madrid where to go. high time them bullies learn that there is principles and money can't buy talent.
premiership is where football is

I think Cesc will stay at Arsenal for a bit longer, and i hop he does to. Hes only just bought a 4million pound house in london after the euros. Sure it would be nice for him to go to a spanish club, but if hes gonna go to a spanish club it would be barcelona... i watched an interview once and he said his dream is to play with barcelona at nou camp stadium. But being an Arsenal fan, i pray for him to stay and help us win the premiership !

come on the mighty gunners

anyone who thinks arsenal are a selling club needs to take a look at the facts, we ony sell players we dont want any more,we dont suffer without the ones we sell and within the last ten years any player we have sold was past it and never produced the form at their new club that they did for arsenal, look at henry and viera, just two examples! and cashley cole aswell, chelsea fans will disagree but he has not been as good for them as he was for us, the fact that clichy was voted best left back in the prem last season says it all!
we dont sell our best players until they are surplus to requirements, flamini was made to look good by the players around him and hlebs goal scoaring record was terrible compared to other wingers past and present like ronaldo and pires, and hleb didnt even make up for that with a good assist record because that was just as bad!
and anyone whos thinks fab will end up at man u or chelsea is just deluded, he wont go to another prem club, he will end up back in spain at some point because he has said hed like to go back but not for a few years and not til we have had the best out of him, like we did wiht the other players we have sold over the last few years!!!!

Arsenal sells their best players.. when they are 30. Wait for a decade and Fab will be back to Spain.

Cesc Fabregas will not move to Madrid, Wenger will not allow him to as he has already let go of two good midfielders and he will not be willing to let another one go. Fabregas is also a huge Barca fan, so it is very low odds that Fabregas will move, because Barca and Madrid will obviously play against each other and Fabregas will not want to participate.

Roxanne x

fab is a gooner 4 life

i understand why cesc is the wanted man,but i hope he will stay at least another 3 years.

i think real are trying to prove to every one that they are only a business enterprise non longer a football club. truly they have no shame. it they so desire to sign cecs or ronaldo why the are they reluctant to let players like scnieder, robinho and ramos leave to the requst from other club. i think tey trully suck.

Wasssup wid this Real Madrid??? For once they try to Steal Ronaldo from Man United & then they point their guns at Fabregas. When'll they understand that it's a serious Transfer Market & not a 'Select-a-Club's-Best-Player-&-bring-him' game!!! Real HAVE to understand that no one's really ready to snub the EPL Big 4 for them- May it Be Fabregas or even Mikhail Silvestre!!!
P.S.: Having Big players isn't enough. Teamwork matters the most...

I had desided not to comment about this but my passion for the club & a player as himself.Thanx alot Madrid but no thanx, offer rejected, don't you people feel ashamed of the careers of players you've put to an end,our oun own Fabregas is still young to be demolished & on top of that he's not yet ready a galactical.
With kind i ask you pls leave the boy alone he's come a long way to this moment he deserves to enjoy it without interuption.
Fab is good at Arsenal, who knows what he will be anywhere else!.Wenger pls stick to the boy coz he's a big part of what Arsenal is now.

IT A SHAME FOR THE GUY WHO SAYS CESC WILL PLAY NEXT YEAR FOR MAN.UTD OR CHELSEA. ARE YOU A DARFT TO SAY SUCH. THESE CLUBS WILL NEVER DO SUCH. I BET YOU. HAVE SOMETHING NICE TO SAY NEXT TIME.MADRID AS THEIR NAME IMPLIES; THEY ARE MAD AND NOT TO BE BLAME FOR THE THINGS THEY ARE DOING. FORGET ABOUT ENGLAND'S PLAYERS EN GO ELSEWHERE.

The exit of Fabregas from the Gunners is a tragedy that I don't want to think about as a die hard fan. The gap in the mid field will be too much and the Gunners will pay dearly for it. I hope Wenger do not contemplate it no matter how much Real Madrid offers.

cesc must stay with arsenal because I support arsenal and he is my favourite player.

Everyone is for sale!
