Fans try to force meeting over Moyes' budget

EVERTON'S £130m WRANGLE

By CHRIS BASCOMBE

EVERTON fans are trying to force a shareholder meeting - amid claims the success of the club’s £130million stadium plans will dictate David Moyes’ summer transfer budget.

A decision on whether to give the green light for the new ground in Kirkby is under Government review and a decision is expected by Thursday.

A public inquiry could cause a delay of at least a year - and the resulting extra £25m construction costs would jeopardise the project.

Everton insist building work will begin next month if they get the go-ahead.

But they are sure to face a series of legal challenges as the scheme is unpopular with both supporters and residents.

There are claims Everton have held back funds to manager Moyes while they await a verdict.

And some fans believe they are being emotionally duped into believing the kitty will be slashed if the stadium move is blocked by protests.

But Everton Director of Communications Ian Ross insisted: “The fans voted in a democratic way in favour and it was their support that was the go-ahead for the club.”

Comments

Yes, the fans did vote for it, but based on the Board's strongly persuasive promotion documents that gave assurances that now appear quite misleading. Knowing what fans know now, it is highly doubtful many would vote to move out of our home city.

The fans were not allowed to vote in a democratic way as claimed by Ian Ross. Due to the faulty administration of the vote many fans eligible to vote were not able to. Many of those that did vote were deceived by false promises.

A move to Kirkby is wrong for so many reasons - 'mid range'(ie breezeblock) stadium, poor facilities in the area, no parking near the stadium, insufficient rail capacity and losing the connection with the City are just a few examples.

Some of us will fight this gamble with Everton's future all the way.

fans voted in favour of the move to kirkby and the vote was administered by the electoral reform society. it was a fair and open vote with a clear majority in favour of the move.

those of us not obsessed with 19th century city boundaries can take an objective view of this opportunity. we have no problem about staying within the city boundaries if it is feasible, but we also have no prejudices about moving outside them either. after all, they are meaningless.

this is a fantastic development for kirkby and most of the residents know it. ive no doubt that planning consent will be given without any major changes to the project.

and in ten or fifteen years time keioc (keep everton in our city) will be long forgotten by a new generation of blues and regarded as dinosaurs by those who do remember.

Time to leave the past behind...kirby wins my vote

Keith Wyness and Ian Ross have both said in the past that Moyes' stadium relocation costs will not infringe upon the transfer budget. Why are we having to sell to buy?Why have we got No money Again? And why wont David Moyes sign a new contract? Why have other clubs got big foreign investers? Why cant we change the foot prit at goodison when we can?Why are the board insisting the is no land in the city to build a new stadium that we can fill when the is? etc, etc, etc. If Keith Wyness and Bill Kenwright take us to the doldrums of kirkby they will both go down in history a long side the captain of the titanic for taking our beloverd club into the abyss.

Thousands like myself wont go to Kirkby. The Everton board should do the right thing and scrap this project right now.

How anyone can still blindly follow this project after all the truthes about costs, stadium design and transport issues have come to light is beyond me.

Everton are the 4th most successful club in English football, we're one of the founder members of the league, we should NOT be vacating our own city against the wishes of 10,000 Evertonians. Especially not to a "mid-level" stadium in a run down town (didn't we vote for a "world class" one btw?).

Malcom Murphy - be careful what you wish for! If we go to Kirkby, Everton will be a thing of the past!

What we should be concerned about is the way the board are holding the club (and fans) to ransom - ie lose and no transfer budget which will result, I believe, in Moyes leaving the club. Win and we get a sub-standard ground out of the City and saddled with millions of debt.
The board should come clean and say why they want the move so badly because the truth is all those that voted yes are now turning away because what the board originally promised has been shown to be lies.
I love Everton but I've come to expect from the club lies, lies, lies and absymal, shoddy treatment of the fans!

This has gone unnoticed by the National media for too long. It's not so much moving over a imaginary boundary line most Evertonians object to, it's the downright lies about how much it would cost, what it would be and the amateurish way that the Club have let Tesco dominate the whole process to the point where we are just a pawn in their plans.

Better to rebuild Goodison over time than take this short term fix that is being exposed every day as the 'Emperor's New Clothes.'

Thats great treet mr moyes like some divy our club is in the best hands i mean manager its ever had he,s a class act ok he started and there were some mistakes ie tacktics.Butyou guys upstairs are untrue your really putting money above all i wish you could dissapear over night. Our yes our everton will be here when you are gone but what mess will you leave us with kirby no chance some of us you will never fool we will fight for efc so bring it on dont you dare let mr moyes down he has proved him self more than you lot have yor making us a laughing stok it hurts me so deeply this is how you feel as a TRUE EVERTON PLEASE GIVE THE BOSS WHAT HE HAS MORE THAN DESERVERED THANKS

I live in Kensington and I can honestly say most fellow evertonians I know are not arsed about the move to Kirkby, speculation over a possible signing gets us far more exercised! For goodness sake we're only moving four miles away and Kirkby is as scouse as anywhere definately not wool. The 100-200 who wont go out of sheer principle wont be missed.

lets just hope the sensible thing is done and the whole thing is called in. if the vote was carried out again it would be 80% against and 20% for. god knows how there would still be 20% for it but their are some strange people in the world and that will never change.

keioc deserve medals. cheers lads

I think the comments on here regarding the 'No' camps objections to Kirkby are missing the point.
It's not that Kirkby is not within the boundaries of the city - it is that it is a cheap stadium, in a soulless retail park, detached from the cultural and economic growth of the city centre.

RE: Sneekes comment on Kirkby being detached fron the cultural and economic growth of the city centre.
You have got to be having a laugh - as a seson ticket holder I've never felt that a pint on County Road represented a cultural experience indicating a strong growth in the economy of the area.
Kirkby is as much a part of Liverpool as our current location and it's depressing that the ludites are prepared to use the rubbish talked by the Red S as part of the excuse for why they won't consider moving.

THIS WAS NOT A FAIR VOTE. Both pro and against were not allowed equal opportunity to present their respective cases. This was not a democratic vote at all, but was one-sided without true full representation from those opposing the move to Kirkby. As usual, as shown by current wrangling and blackmail, its vote for the move or lose chances to improve the squad...
Its still happening now.

We have been lied to time and time again from wyness and co, the so called deal of the century , the so called free stadium all of which is now going to plunge us deeper into debt. we cant fill a forty thousans seater now and we still have empty corporate boxes on match days if we go to kirkby wyness has stated that he expects to loose 20% of the fanbase, were the hell does that lunatic expect to get new fans from. we will be in a souless town , with a half full stadium and empty corporate boxes. deep in debt which leads to a poor team on the pitch. project kirkby = loss of fans=debt=no funds=relegation. it also means kenwright will sell his stake for a big profit and wynesses job objectives will be met and his bonous paid, what do we get???? embarracement, heartache, and boring saturdays walking around doing nothing coz most of us will not be going to kirkby. kenwright rot in hell for killing our great club

I for one am not surprised by these latest developments if the fans that voted yes to kirkby are naive enough to think that the assurances given off a actor like kenwright and daft sidekick wyness were genuine then these this latest news will get them thinking mybe they were wrong to vote yes afterall. From the start there has been to many ifs buts to this supposed ground move i for one am strongly against it the vote was a farce the pictures and literature we got to look at of the new ground was a farce and now the money available to a manager who has done wonders to get are pride back and get us back up there again is a farce whoever thinks a yes vote was the right decision needs there head testing

Its not about where we go, its about making sure that Wyness and Kenwright get a bigger payout when they sell up, than they would if we stayed at Goodison

I and thousands of others will not be travelling out of the city to watch our "home" games. The sooner the board realise this the sooner we can progress. Moving away from the city of Liverpool will be the death of "OUR" great club!

Those who voted 'YES', voted for a FREE stadium.

Those who voted 'YES' voted for a 'state of the art stadium'.

Surprise surprise, they will be getting neither.

I voted no.

I am a season ticket holder and decided a while back that should those 'running' Everton FC, show the ultimate disloyalty to Everton FC, by moving the club out of the city of Liverpool, I will not be following.

I will simply never consider an 'Everton' that plays in Kirkby to be the REAL Everton FC.

I WOULD however support any REAL Everton formed to stay and play in the same area of Liverpool, we have been for 130 years.

That team can have my season ticket money.

It has nothing to do with the city boundary, for me. It's the BS and lies we have been told which set me against it. Kenwright, Wyness, Leahy, Bradley - all liars. And the 'yes' camp have swallowed this wholesale.

When I talk to fans of other clubs, 99% of them say that they love Goodison, because it's a proper football ground, even for a visiting fan. I do not buy this rubbish about safety certificates etc that Fat Keith spews out. Even if it were true, those issues could be fixed, and the capacity increased, for a tiny fraction of the cost of a soulless flat-pack stadium 7 miles away.

It really makes me wonder whether Wyness and Kenwright are conning us, because Tesco have conned them. Stay at a fixed Goodison.

Im sorry or is it just me, does anyone else feel let down by Everton FC.
Ive supported Everton all my life, and lately I just feel disheartened with the attitude of the club. Dont get me wrong I Love Everton, and Goodison Park, I think the clubs history and whats special about the club is a lot to do with its position in the city, as well as the proximity to the reds and the rivalry.
Over the past 15 years its not been easy to be an evertonian, but like the rest we with stick with our team through good and bad, but lately I seem to get more and more disillousioned with the whole Kenright/Wyness propaganda, I think now the heart and soul of this great club is being torn to shreds and sold down the river, I really dont think I can go to Kirkby to watch Everton, It will never ever be the same again & you cant go back.
The artists impressions of the stadium with emotive black & white images all over it are never going to be reality, were being conned and frankly ive pretty much had enough, youve got to sympathise with the likes of FC united and AFC Wimbledon.
Imagine taking Glasgow Rangers out of Glasgow!
If Everton leave the city of Liverpool, were do we belong? We will be a town team no better than Wigan Latics, with a half empty ground in the middle of a shopping centre!
Thats not football, wheres the passion, the History.
The 1st time I visited Goodison I remember shivering with a tingle down my spine as I walked into a packed Gwladys St end, thats something I will never forget, I could feel the history, but once we leave Goodison its over.

RIP
EVERTON FC
1878-2009

We loved you.

If the present board get there way and move to kirkby I,40 odd years a blue and my teenage sons, who I originally cajouled to be blue over intense peer pressure, will walk away from our team.
I speak to lots of blues and would say 8 out 10 would vote no and half would walk away from everton fc.
How can the club survive with such numbers not only losing loyalty but not striving to continue a Fathers minimum requirement, bring his kids up as blues.Don't do it Bill.Prove to us that your not the type of person you are being perceived to be.We are all aware that the whole episode from start to finish was a contrived piece of expert propaganda. You will upset more fans if we leave than if we stay.Show some balls BK & stand up to the men pulling the strings

I feel bereft thinking that Everton FC will leave Goodison Park and the city of Liverpool. If it happens, it is bound to spell the beginning of the end. The debt will be all smothering and the sums which that Liar Wyness comes up with just do not add up. Kenwright, you will have sanctioned the death of our great club, how can you live with that ? Yes voters, by following the club line doesnt make you better Evertonians and shame on you for falling for all these lies. May God forgive you.

OMG - Anfield to Kirkby just over 6 miles. And Anfield to Tranmere just over 6 miles. This is gonna be a close one as to who will be our Real Derby Team! That Everton Fan that said Everton are the 4th most successfull club in history? Well no its Aston Villa. The Everton fans that say "we wont travel to Kirkby are not true fans"

I've read a lot of negative comments on this blog. I have been a fan for over 40 years and where we play has nothing to do with my allegiance to Everton Football Club. As for city boundaries it really does not matter. You either follow the club or you don't. The people who have money, will only invest where they think they will get a healthy rate of return. That is why we do not have anyone ready to invest in Goodison Park. Those who threaten not to follow, are not true followers of this great club side which like LFC are known all over the world.
Look at the make up of the sides. Are we saying that a true Everton or Liverpool side should only select players from within the City boundary? Are we saying that only people in the City Boundary should be allowed to attend? Everton and Liverpool FC are not owned by people in Liverpool. They are both on a European/World stage. Please move forward and accept change.

If you want to read about Debt read your papers today and see that Arsenal are paying back 24 million per year for their Stadium. Wenger now believes that they are a selling club. Everton will be the same in the long run,Moyes has still to sign his contract and no sign of any imminent signings. This will be a very confusing Summer. Keep Goodison in Everton hands, we must keep our traditional home, not a supermarket Kirkby.

We don't want to go to Kirby, Kirby don't want us. Simple as. The only happy ones will be the Liverpool fans. Re-generate Goodison as the GFE study showed, thats what EVERY fan really wants! Listen to the fans for once.

Matt that Everton fan was probably refering to English football, and winning two more top flight titles but less other lesser trophies IMHO makes Everton more successful mate, the top flight is what it`s all about.
