Adebayor demands 400 per cent wage rise
PAY ME LIKE THIERRY
By DAVID BARNES
GREEDY Emmanuel Adebayor (right) today insists he deserves to join the Thierry Henry pay league to stay at Arsenal.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger met the Togo striker at Euro 2008 on Friday to talk about his future.
European giants Barcelona and AC Milan both want to sign Adebayor — although Wenger insists no bids have been received.
But in an exclusive interview, Adebayor declared: “Either Arsenal give me what I want and I stay or they don’t and I leave.”

Adebayor, 24, wants a mega new £120,000-a-week deal — a staggering 400 per cent increase on his current wages.
It would rival the pay of former skipper Henry, now at Barcelona. Adebayor said: “People ask if I’m asking for the same salary as Henry. That is not necessarily the question.
“But I am being considered a worthy replacement for Henry while not deserving his salary. The question lies on this level.”
Adebayor made it clear he would snub Milan in favour of Barca if the Gunners do not meet his demands.
The ex-Monaco striker, who scored 30 goals for Arsenal last season, added: “Milan are a big club but the fact they are not playing in the Champions League next season is less of a challenge.
Value
“Barcelona have made a good financial offer andthere is also the chance to play alongside great players. Yes, I am still under contract to Arsenal but it’s up to the directors to satisfy my demands or I’ll leave.”
I understand Adebayor felt he had already reached a verbal agreement with Arsenal, but has grown frustrated that the contract is not being delivered.
And Barca are believed to have offered him the £120,000-a-week he craves to sign for them.
Wenger paid Monaco £7million to sign Adebayor in January, 2006 but he is now worth £30m.
He added: “You have to take advantage of the moment. If my good form has increased my value, my employers have to take account of that.
“Sure, the Arsenal fans want to see me scoring lovely goals next season. I have the same wish, too.
“But the career of a footballer is soon over. My good goals aren’t the only things I am going to enjoy at the end of it.
“I have to prepare for my retirement as a player, too. Even if you’re not scoring fine goals and you have money, you can enjoy a happy retirement.
“The time for preparing for that moment is now.”
adebayo or whatever is not worth all this publication.honestly if am to be wenger i will sell him and use the procced to buy a player of top quality.give adebayo ten clear chances and i bet he can only score one.i dont blame him anyway.he should count himself lucky to have a manager like wenger who gave him all the chances he needed.he will not get that anywhere else.he was never a regular in monaco

Bye Bye Ade, Wenger would be mad to give into your demands. You are a good player, but not great, we want players with heart and soul, not just thinking of ££££, go where the grass/money is greener, and go soon, there was never this much hype when Henry left, and he was a true gooner legend, without wage demands. Adios

Oh dear he already thinks he's worth the same as Thierry. Ade I suggest you stop laying out in the sun you are obviously deluded. You are nowhere near as good as Thierry and never will be. For a forward that misses more chances than scores.....dream on.
You owe Arsene more than he owes you, you were a bench warmer at Monaco and he plucked you from near obscurity. I say he doesn't get a penny more, shove him on the bench and bring one of the kids in. You want back in the Arsenal family Ade then show some respect!

why should wenger pay ade all that money when her is nothing like henry, henry is more of a world class player than what ade will ever be and what has ade realy done for us to deserve to be paid as mutch as henry was if i was wenger i whould sell him and buy someone else with better quality

maybe he deserves £120.00 per week the way he plays most of the matches
if Van Persie and Eduardo are fit
Adebayor is just the bench warmer for The Arsenal too
he is not a great player by any stretch of anyones imagination, he looked good against Derby county but so would 1 of my cats in front of goal
there are tons of great players out there who would love to play for us, so get rid of this mug and let 1 or 2 of them take his space
PLEASE ARSENE SELL SELL SELL THIS MONEY GRABBER
just like anelka before him buy low sell high
GOOD LUCK TO THE ARSENAL FOR SEASON 2008-09

Adebayor bought his mother a huge house in her village. she refuses to live in it. she stays in the traditional mudhut style place in the village. its a shame that adebayor failed to grow to be as humble as his mother. I hope arsenal dont cave in to his demands (i doubt they will), as arsenal's pay structure as well as their style of play just go to show teams like chelsea that its not just about money. It should have been ade who suffered that injury, not eduardo

Ade juz get a life..... lets see him get a real run for his money wen van persie and eduardo(if he's fit) challenge him for the starting berth.. i think walcott would be better... i dont see adebayor as a great player.. remember his hand of ade at old trafford?? a striker who cant even head the ball in from 3 yards........

is arsenal in danger of losing there top player over there wage structure, even though £120.000 is a bit rich , rumours of eto and villa coming to arsenal will cost just a much in wages if not more ,is it possable they will miss out on these target too as it there rival all pay there top player this type of money so what to do, ""pay or lose"there better players, its all about money now a days it is sad to see. let him go to barca and do what overmars and petit done NOTHING! we don't need a money grabbing waste of space up front like him, i'd take the 20 mill and buy a decent holding midfeilder and a centre back and five african forwards with pace, probably still have change to pay some of the stadium off, wenger do what you do best and sell at the right time, NOW!

hi my name is monique and i am a big arsenal fan ! i love arsenal 2 bits and they are a very good team but they need 2 show there talents next season . if adebayor goes arsenal have a big chance of losing alot of games which we dont want ! please adebayor dont go . just get the money that arsene wenger is paying you, and if you just play a bit better he might offer you a bit more money, and you will be very suprised when he puts the price up for you. i use 2 supprot manchester united. but i saw the light and the good talent in you and the arsenal team thats why i have moved. adebayor you are a great player and if you go 2 barcelona there will be a big difference in the arsenal team. eduardo is injured that is 1 of our best players and if u go then well i wont be very happy at all please stay you have very good talent in the team you just need 2 show we can beat all the big teams and good teams x

Isnt Adebayor just typical of todays footballer, he earns roughly 30 grand a week which is more than most earn in a year but yet he's still not happy.
I'm sure he had a very austere upbringing but yet his greed has got the better of him, it doesnt matter how much money has earns as a footballer he's a great example of money doesnt but class, you can take the man out of the jungle but will never take the jungle out of the man.

I completely disagree with monique. how can you imagine that arsenal have a big chance of losing if adebayor goes? its a team game and even though adebayor does contribute i completely disagree. the same was said when there was speculations about Thierry going. we (arsenal) rejected as much as 40million for him and he turned out to be a flop the season after and we ended up selling him for 16mil even cheaper than Daren Bent (insult to theirry). I say we sell the greedy bugger (adebayor) as he is not all that and a bag of chips, for 30 mil. Buy Oba Martins (currently wasting in new castle) who has pace and scores and in my opinion better than ade and still have loads of change for another player (david silva). i cant wait for next season cos flamini will not be as good as he was playing for arsenal and if wenger uses his intelligence and sells ade, d same would apply to him as well.
please get ridof the greedy eggs so we can prepare for the emirates cup and then go into next season in full blast

I have been an Arsenal supporter for 64 years and Adebayor is certainly not the best striker that Arsenal have ever had - he misses far more than he scores, he has no ball control and he is slow - he wants to be paid what he is worth - if that was the case he would be on £10k per year! Arsene Wenger should take the £30m and get somebody who is worth what they are paid.

what a ungrateful sod!! wenger brought him to arsenal as a nobody and this is how he repays the man who brought him to the best league in the world!! i say sell him get £30 million for him and go buy a striker that wants to play for the best footballing team in the world!

I think Wenger should of kept his mouth shut when commenting about Fergie and Ronaldo. Wenger has made this situation with Adebayor even more embarrasing than it was before. Remember the old proverb, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

All this nonsence about footballers careers being short lived and they should be paid vastly inflatted wages is crazy. If for example Adebayor gets paid 30 grand a week, over 52 weeks thats £1.5 million per year and he is on a low wage to other footballers. The average worker gets paid 30 grand a year and has to work 50 years to get what the average footballer gets in 1 year. So much for a short career. I think all footie fans should boycott watching games for 1 year and let these players know they are taking the pxxx.

As Paul Fittzy Fitgerald would say GFY Ade, you are not TH 14, and never will be - Whats next, are you going to call up Gilette and Demand to be in a Coomerical with Tiger Woods and Rodger Federar?

OMG!!!! im a arsenal fan, and i think that we should just let him go... does he really think that he is that good to have a 400% rise... i mean if he scored more goals, and be able to play as part of a team! how big headed can you get.. its all about the money with him.. so if that how he feels then wenger should let him go and sign someone who wants to be with arsenal to win trophies not for the money...!

I think Adebayor should be sold ......... Like Anelka before him he'll realise all too late that it was the magic of Arsenal that 'propped' him. His punishment thereafter will to remain a journeyman for the rest of his ("short") career. Short career? - Adebayor hasn't seen short yet - Within a few months of being where he thinks is best for him, he'll start a slide into obscurity and medicrity and fade from view.
Adebayor is just OK AFAIK. He's had a few great moments ... but then so has my dog!!! Nothing to ascribe him to footballing legend and I doubt he'll every reach that pinnacle.
I think the joke will be on the team that buys him. Arsene Wenger should sell him straight away and let's pick that £30 million up. A fool and his money are soon parted. Sell him then we can watch Adebayor's 'progress' as he fails to live up to the billing when the on field support he has had from Arsenal team mates evaporates and he finds he's having to 'fight' to get a chance at the goal and possibly even a chance to get on the team list.
