MY TEAM OF THE SEASON
David James
ONE of the major factors in Portsmouth's great season, has produced some match winning displays especially on FA Cup run. Fully deserved England recall.
Bacary Sagna
A GREAT example of Arsene Wenger's business in the transfer market - a £6 million steal from Auxerre. Only just broken in to the France national side but is rapidly emerging as the best right back in the world.
Ricardo Carvalho
CHELSEA always miss the influence of John Terry, especially this season when he was out for 19 league games. But, because of his injuries, JT now has a tendency to defend on the edge and so make mistakes. In contrast, Carvalho is always in control. Reads the game brilliantly. Has made a few rash challenges but a rock for the Blues.
Nemanja Vidic
RUGGED Serb defender has been a trooper for United this season. Rio Ferdinand tends to catch the eye but when Vidic is not playing United are more suspect in the air. Rio certainly misses a player who has emerged as United's new Jaap Stam.
Patrice Evra
THE Senegalese-born France international plays like a Brazilian left back in the mould of Roberto Carlos. Knows how to tackle and track back, but has the power to make awesome left-foot passes, match-changing overlaps and crosses.
Steven Gerrard
WHERE would Liverpool be without him? Probably about eighth. Along with Jamie Carragher, Stevie G has been the driving force for the Reds and helped disguise Rafa Benitez's shortcomings. No change there. May yet be enticed by a move this summer.
Cesc Fabregas
THE best all-round midfield player in the Premier League. Attacks so well, but also superb defensively. Constantly knitting things together. In many ways, he has carried Arsenal this season. The Gunners face a battle to keep him away form the clutches of Barcelona or Real Madrid this summer.
Gareth Barry
NO wonder Liverpool and Arsenal want him. He's been a major reason why Aston Villa have punched above their weight this season. Does not excel at one thing, but is tidy, intelligent and always exerts an influence over a game.
Dimitar Berbatov
IN terms of pure entertainment and elegance, he's the second-best player in the League to watch - behind Cristiano Ronaldo. He kisses the ball with even more finesse than Eric Cantona. Makes and scores goals but is also moody. All part of the attraction.
Fernando Torres
JUST edges out Manu Adebayor. A rarity in that he's one of the few Spanish players to have made an instant impact in the Premier League. A better finisher than Adebayor and more of a constant menace.
Cristiano Ronaldo
IMMENSE. At 22, he is already on the way to eclipsing George Best in every department except the ability to drink. And that is a massive plus. Enough said.
MY MANAGER OF THE SEASON
Harry Redknapp
IT would be a mistake to give the award to either Alex Ferguson or Avram Grant, even if they each end up with a major trophy this season.
Fergie has done well to maintain United's momentum and Grant has done equally well not to drop the baton inherited from Jose Mourinho. But in keeping Portsmouth in the top eight all season and leading them to the FA Cup Final when under so much scrutiny is an immense achievement by Redknapp.
MY FLOP OF THE SEASON
Florent Malouda
SIGNED by Chelsea for £13 million from Lyon the French winger has been for the most part a waste of space.
Cast as the player to inject to some new spark he has been a wet fish.
MY YOUNG PLAYER OF THE SEASON
Cesc Fabregas
WHEN watching him play it's easy to forget he is just 20. His quality was epitomised in the 2-0 win against AC Milan in San Siro.
Significantly when he started to tire around February and March Arsenal lost their momentum
MY GAME OF THE SEASON
Tottenham 4, Chelsea 4 (March 19, 2008)
PLENTY of great games but for sheer topsy turvy drama and significance this game sticks out. Robbie Keane's last-ditch equaliser may well turn out to be the goal which cost Chelsea the title.
MY GOAL OF THE SEASON
ANY of the 40 scored by Ronaldo. The sublime back flick against Aston Villa though sticks out in terms of sheer audacity
MY SURPRISE OF THE SEASON
THAT Derby actually won a game. In case you'd forgotten, they beat Newcastle 1-0 back in September.
MY DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE SEASON
I'VE got three - and I'm sure there are more. But I'll stick with three for now - that England failed to qualify for the Euro finals, that a foreign coach was appointed as England manager and that David Beckham was gifted a 100th cap.
MY BEST BUY OF THE SEASON
Fernando Torres
AT £24 million, not a bargain basement choice but it's rare big-money signing from abroad live up to theprice tag in their first season. He's done that and more.
MY WORST BUY OF THE SEASON
Freddie Ljungberg
HOW he managed to get £80,000 a week out of West Ham after being shown the door by Arsenal is anyone's guess. He's played most of the season looking like he's too tired after counting the wedge each week.
