Axed Grant in fury at 'ruthless' Chelsea

I'VE BEEN BETRAYED

EXCLUSIVE by JAMES WEATHERUP and ROB BEASLEY

SACKED Chelsea boss Avram Grant last night launched an astonishing attack on billionaire owner Roman Abramovich and blasted: "I feel completely betrayed."

Israeli Grant, dressed all in black, walked into the Russian's six-storey London mansion at 1.45pm yesterday to be told he was axed.

The meeting — less than 72 hours after the Blues' heart-breaking European Cup Final shoot-out defeat to Manchester United — lasted just under three hours.

Barcelona boss Frank Rijkaard is now hot favourite to replace the man who took charge after Jose Mourinho was axed just eight months ago.

And Grant told friends in Israel: "I took on the job at a very difficult time but Chelsea have pulled the plug on me. I feel very hurt, upset and angry."

Abramovich offered Grant the position of Director of Football at Stamford Bridge but he turned down the £2million-a-year job.

A pal of Grant in Israel revealed: "Avram said he doesn't trust them any more.

"It was not a friendly meeting at all. Avram does not want anything to do with the club now. He didn't even want to discuss his compensation, which will run into millions. He told Roman to speak to his lawyer."

Another pal in Israel said: "Avram thinks Chelsea are totally ruthless."

Now tell us what you think of Grant's sacking. Add your comments below and join the debate.

Great news. He's got no style and he led the team to failure.

Miserable git.

Totally in keeping with the prevailing moral background at Chelsea. Abramovich, Buck, Kenyon....they cannot hold a candle to Grant in terms of fundamental decency and knowledge of football.
Jose M also did the right thing getting away from those big headed, deluded wannabes who think money gets you everything.
The decent and knowledgeable Chelsea fans will be despairing. Ferguson must be laughing his socks off but at Abramovich and Chelsea not at Grant.
What a sad day for football generally.

Show me any other manager,in a period of 8 months take
a team in such a turmoil, pick all the pieces and bring them to final championship and second in the league.
I call it unappriciative and ungratful owner.

He was never there in the first place.always fending off jabs about his job, tactics, personality and comments,Grant was a dwarf thrusted into Jose's XXL giant footprints.he did well though just a fraction off what mourinho would have done, but that is what makes Jose 'the special one'-the fraction.Mourinho has always been at chelsea this season but in ABSENTIA

Jose's shoes were too big for Grant.he always walked in darkness, eclipsed by jose's works.ECLIPSE OF THE MOON JOSE

Good ridance back stabbed Jose. No feel for you AvG,a dull mgr with no football knowledge. My wife could have done better than this. Thumbs up to Kenyon, Abromvich though you have no class.

Do something audacious and offer the job to Mourhino, it would take everyone's breath away, but would be tremendous for Chelsea!!! Then we would really be on target to be top.

I couldn't care less whoever is the Manager at Chelsea. They will never scale the heights that ManU achieved. ManU's one of the greatest club in the world. Chelsea is nowhere near them. Money can't buy success Mr 'Money' Rom.

Grant did a great job managing Chelsea, but his approach and tactics used were always based on Mourinho's foundations. I think Robert Macini, the Inter Milan coach should have a go at managing chelsea. If things do not work out, we can just get rid of him in a years time.

This just goes to show roman abromavich has very little understanding of what it takes to build a great club, someone with his wealth is used to just chucking money at everything but he has to understand in football this doesn't work, Grant has done a great job in the short time he has been in charge....Maybe chelsea could approach Man U and ask if they can buy the Premiership and European trophies !!!!!

Disgusting treatment of a good manager..
2nd in premiership and champions league final???
What next sack Terry for missin a penalty.
Hope Chelsea go down to championship

Well he had to do it again, I'm talking about Abramovich, he fired a man who did a magnificent job despite the short time he was in charge and knowing full well who was looking over his shoulder all the time. It was plain to see that Grant cared for his players and their feelings, you all know who i'm talking about. Abramovich your a sicko you can spend all the money you have, but you will never buy the Premier or Champions league. It takes the love of the game. The game that requires commitment, patients and most of all allowing a manager to do his job without interuptions. Do you want a successful team that is respected through out the world and loved by its fans and others ?, well keep your nose out of the players and managers face. PS who the hell would want to manage this team anyway knowing full there going to get the sack at the end of the season. Manu for ever

Typical Chelsea, mks me glad to be an Rs fan

Yippee. Rejoice. Out completely please. No Director of Football.

i think the whole chelsea board should follow Grant.what were they thinking when this man was appointed, were they expecting miracle.the whole board were parochial.if they say there ten year plan is to win two champion league they should have appointed the owner himself instead of Grant.i think he will be a better choice. This man didnt not even had any authority.same on chelsea

fancy a job at eastlands avram to do what you did at chelsea you would have the freedom of manchester sven for chelsea not beyond probability

Every time I wonder why I've supported Everton for 40 years, something like this happens to bring me to my senses.... To all the Evertonians who think Bill Kenwright should sell out (You on Blue Kipper know who you are !) ... Would you seriously prefer this nonsense?

Hmmm.. i wonder how many of these non chelsea fans will be begging their clubs to employ Grant since they clearly think he is the way foward? I seriously doubt any EPL club will contact him..

everybody seemed to know wat was comin except for grant. I have to admit that i didnt rate him at first but wat he has acheived has been exceptional to say the least. Any1 who wud wanna work for chelsea under abramhovic will av 2 b out of their mind. Den again when u think of da millions grant is gonna get for just 8 months work it does start to appear attractive lol

Chelsea have no class and they deserve all they get. I don't like ManUre, but I was glad to see them beat Chelsea...Twice.
Grant is a decent bloke who did well considering the way he came to the job.

Its been coming. Lets face facts.Any manager worth his salt could've made a run at the league and ECL with the set of players Grant had (Rangers reached the UEFA Final). I feel Avram has been let down by Drogba but given the talent in the dressing room,a more experienced and bolder manager would probably have taken them further. Man for man Chelsea have the best squad in Europe except maybe Inter Milan. Why was SWP not in the final, when Evra's pace was obviously going to cause problems and why play the most complete midfielder since Roy Keane (Michael Essien) at Right back when there's two solid RB's on the bench. Asking for trouble!! and lets not forget the sneaky way Grant got the job. He can have no complaints given his track record( remember Harry Redknapp's job was under threat at Pompey, just like Mourinho). I am also annoyed that he seems to have taken Lampard's mother's death harder than Frank himself. Playing the sympathy card won't wash with Roman!

Always thought that Grant was a decent guy, just out of his depth. He was always in Mourihnos shadow, and it was M's players who did the job in spite of Grant, which is why many say their style of play is the same as before.
Let Abramovic bring Jose back and show us that he is big enough to admit he made a mistake. He'll get more respect for that than he will by appointing the wrong man again.

you just have to laugh i mran what do they want it seems to me chealsea are the english real madrid worring times for the new man as well as failure has been defined ,so you need to hit the ground running and above all else win things in your first season as a second is not a option well good luck to the poor sod who takes the job on

Chelsea got it wrong again. They sacked the wrong guy. If anyone has to go it has to be KENYON (read CAN YAWN) who has been feeding the flthy rich russian the wrong advice.
