United ready to move for City's England defender
FERGIE TAKES THE MICAH
EXCLUSIVE by ANDY DUNN
SIR ALEX FERGUSON is ready to make a dramatic move for England star Micah Richards.
The Manchester United boss has earmarked Richards as his No1 target — and the news will push Manchester City into even deeper crisis.
Richards, 19, only recently signed a contract designed to keep him at Eastlands until 2013. But his future is now unclear as owner Thaksin Shinawatra plans a summer overhaul of the club.
And Sport of the World understands that a bid of around £25million would be sufficient for Shinawatra to sell Richards, who is one of those players said to be unhappy about the imminent departure of Sven Goran Eriksson.

Bizarrely, Shinawatra has put all player business on hold for the foreseeable future.
And I understand that could lead to the departure of key stars such as Richard Dunne and Joe Hart as well as the jewel in the crown, Richards.
Wages
Dunne, with just one year of his current deal left, has been given the cold shoulder by Shinawatra even though the player's agents have tried to get round the table to secure the defender's future.
And that looks certain to send Dunne, 28, into the arms of Newcastle's Kevin Keegan.
Hart's situation is just as worrying. He signed a long-term deal when he joined from Shrewsbury less than two years ago.
But his wages do not match his first team status and his progression to the fringe of England's senior team.
Plans had been made to draw up a new deal that would put him on a wage compatible with his new status but that has been shelved and Hart, who has attracted the attentions of Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, is now bound to be the target of other Premier League clubs.
But it is the possibility that Richards could move across the city that will outrage Blues most.
Richards turns 20 next month and while City are realistic enough to know that one of the Big Four is likely to come calling, they had hoped he would stay for several years.
And there are also some people within the City hierarchy who believe the club would be best served by selling Richards if they got an offer well in excess of £20million.
From the player's point of view, a move to his club's bitter rivals would be difficult.
And he would have to accept that he would be joining as a right-back - forming a dream back four for Fergie of Richards, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra.
But United would be able to almost double his £45,000 a week wages and Richards would be playing Champions League football.
Ideally, Arsenal would be the favoured destination if Richards was to be sold by City but Ferguson rarely fails to land someone he has labelled his number one target.
Good bit of business from Man Utd, buy home grown. How many do they have at the moment. Arsenal and Chelsea learn from the masters. Home grown players understand the English game best and will make England future world cup holders again.

Right, so Man Utd look to spend £25m on a defender and we all have to applaude that he's Home Grown. When Chelsea spend money its 'your trying to buy success'? PS Hope Chelsea buy Richards and have 3 out of Englands back 4!

Rafa take note, please you to have to break bank again this season for Micah, he is quality and that's what Liverpool should be aiming at, instead of instead of fringe buys like Pennant and some of the foreign cheap buys.

Rafa take note, Man U are on the verge of winning the title and already are thinking of bringing such quality - if possible break bank to land Micah and any quality players instead of fronge average players like Pennant. Torres should be an example of what you get when you spend big but wisely.

Absolutely right Brian. Man Utd. are the biggest spenders in world football according to the statisticians, but criticise anyone who spends the sort of sums they do. Arrogant hypocrits. 30mill. Ferdinand , 30 mill Rooney , 28 mill Veron , 20 mill Ronaldo, 18 mill Carrick etc etc etc.

Its well known in football circles that micah is an arsenal fan ,and with the brand of football they play its little wonder.i dont think man u or liverpool could attract him and he is a bit of a weirdo with his threesomes and party life style.i think he's a massive risk despite his obvious talent.alan hutton of spurs is the best right back in england and is also british.

WHAT GIVES FERGUSON THE RIGHT TO BUY SOMEONE FROM A LOCAL RIVAL WHEN HE DOESNT LET HIS PLAYERS JOIN A RIVAL TEAM!!! REMEMBER NOT LETTING LIVERPOOL BUY HEINZE!!! IF I WERE CITY ID TELL HIM TO RAM IT.
FERGUSON SHOULD BE PUT IN HIS PLACE, IF HE IS SUCH A GOOD MANAGER WHY DONT HE GO BACK TO SCOTLAND AND MANAGE THEIR POOR TEAM, LETS SEE HOW GOOD HE IS.

Ronaldo ONLY cost £7.7 million, NOT £20 million or even £12 million that is always quoted. £12 million was the total package i.e. £7.7 million transfer fee and the rest was how much his contract (wages) was over 5 years.
United was still a plc when they bought him so had to list it all to the stock exchange, read it for yourself if you want.
£7.7 million!! Absolute bargain!!!

I would be very surprised if we sign Richards. It would be like Gerrard going to Everton. Don't get me wrong i would love to see him at utd next season. Just imagine Rio, Nemanja, Eva and Richards. What a back 4 that would be. All we need then is Karim Benzema from Lyon up front. Then stop us Abramovich, you could spend £180m on Messi and it wouldn't make any difference.

Oh dear, listen to you lot. Its embarrassing looking at you all getting catty at eachother about a news story!
Ferguson is a great manager realvandal, look at his work with Aberdeen before joining utd, it shows where time and investment into a team pays off, too many chairmen do not give managers the chance to establish their ways with a team and make an impact. Dein did it with Wenger and he is the only other manager who has made an impact to Ferguson!
About money, im sure if utd signed Richards they would be applauding the fact that he was home grown, but english players are all getting massive transfer fee's, look at what people are asking for lampard, and he isnt really that good! Gareth Barry will collect a huge fee this summer no doubt, but who cares, im just proud that the premiership has been awesome this year and we have 3 teams in the semi's of the champions league! Stop biting at each other, and enjoy the football.....

Micah,
Look what happened to SWP when he went to a big name club with a lot of money !!!
Go to the **** if you want to lose your England place which you claim you are so proud of....... First team football and your partnership with Dunne is what got you where you are today ... don't be another SWP and throw it all away so easily.

I Hate how people keeping coming up with comments on how united have bought the title. In my opinion the money spent this season was an investment for the future. The players bought this year have strengthened us but i believe it was the core from last year that has seen us through. I beeleive all of fergusons expensive signings barring veron have been good investments. rooney still only 22 and has already pretty much won 2 titles and a champs league. ferdinand has become a world class defender in his time at old trafford and a potential england captain. Time will only tell with nani anderson and hargreaves. But i believe nani and anderson will comed under fergies guidance.I believe you have to be very naive if you believe you can get english players such as hargreaves and carrick for cheap. Although expensive i think both players have been 2 solid signings and also add to our home grown talent. Asides from Veron all uniteds expensive signings have been value for money

Yeah, Man U don't spend 20-30 million pound on a player to help warming the bench. They spend on a certain player who is going to improve that position that is require. They don't go in and use that **** money to buy immediate success. Afterall, the money they spent are profits made from playing good exciting football.
Going to Chelsea will make Richard a dull boy. Not as like Man U, their game is always exciting to watch. So to improve his game, Richard should go to Man U.

yeah, i've read u all but who say manutd would win this w/end. let me tell u all wigan would draw 2 - 2 with manutd, while chelsea would win 2 - 1. micah or no micah, english football at the national level is already in the bin. with all the press bloated players in the premiership, english is yet to win anything in europe and the world since 1966. tell me what is the diff between england and abramovich. both have money and no professional footballer that is good for world footballer of the year award.

I cant believe the stick man united and ferguson are getting!! Im a Bristol Rovers fan so by your standards to us everyone is buying success.
We accept we dont spend large amounts of money as we dont have the number of fans to create the revenue!
Man Utd do so they spend, thats how football works.
What Chelsea do is different, it is an investors money, this is bad for football as it takes power away from the fans and is what i class as buying success!!!
Man Utds method of reinvesting profits to retain support and ensure more profit is just good business!!
I also believe Richards would get first team football at old trafford which would strengthen his england position, he'll only become a SWP if hes always on the bench

this is getting sily now,,,man utd can splash out 25mil on def and it is seen a good signing but if was chelsea the claws come out sharpened,, oh and i read a comment on here claiming that utd signings are for the future,,so am guessing messi is coming to the end of his career,, and talking about flops, utd have signed many over the years yet they dont documented like for example swp,,get real utd are big spenders, and over the last ten yrs they have spent more than anyone,,and if it wasnt for ur prawn eating fans abramovich would have bought you. stop ******* about chelsea spending, its just sour grapes,, and what gives fergie the right to sign players from local rivals when he forced heinze to go to spain when he cleary wanted to play for liverpooln its a joke and arrogance,,and ps chelsea will spend big this summer and will take the title, or even retain it,,,but lets be honest, ur playing wigan and who's their manager, i wouldnt be suprised if he gave a few youth players a run out as they have nothing left to play for,,someone should rig wigans dressing room to listen in on the team talk to confirm what is expected, its just sad that the title will be handed to utd by one of their former players,,you know what if thats the case maybe bruce should get a winners medal too.

why does everyone turn everything into a war between united and chelsea, the only way for micah to go if he wants to improve his already great talent is to united, look at how well fergie does wit the young players, rooney, ronaldo, anderson, pique, even when brown(1of the best defenders in the league), scholes giggs, beckham, were youngsters!! they have all had great careers where be it at united or have moved on!!! chelsea can spend as much as they want as they have every right to because its their money,(well abramovich's) but look at what its baught them over the last couple of years, yes a good team and a few tropheys but even the likes of lampard and drogba are wanting out now as a result of all the sagas that have gone on btween the owner and the managers! that must say somthing about whats going on at chelsea at the moment. so i do think it would be better if he did come to united, possibaly not personally because of city fans but he can hopfully learn alot off gary. good luck chelsea at the weekend youve done well to catch us but think we are gonna win the title AGAIN!!! oh and who did the manager of wigan play for, for a number of years? he might even want to give the young guys at wigan a run against quality now that there safe!!!

i think that micah richards is the hotest prospect in the premiership, yes that's right even hotter than ronaldo. he's 19, nearly 20 and he has to be almost as fast as ronaldo, fantastic at tackaling and puts an unbelievable work shift in. to be honest if i was a billionaire and owned man utd, i would pay upto 50mil for this fantastic player.
