Benitez could go in summer, warns legend Dalglish

SORT OUT LIVERPOOL MESS

EXCLUSIVE by ANDY DUNN

LIVERPOOL'S warring owners need to resolve their differences — or run the risk of losing Rafa Benitez.

That is the verdict of Kop legend Kenny Dalglish, who says the boardroom strife makes life harder for Benitez.

Dalglish said: "Tom (Hicks) and George (Gillett) need to sort it and sort it yesterday. The current situation is only creating huge uncertainty for the club, the players and the manager.

Ferguson will go on and on, says Dalglish: Click here for full story

"To his credit, Rafa is getting on with the job and he is committed to the club. But how can you do it properly when you have two owners who don't agree with each other?

"Rafa needs to know his transfer budget.

Risk

"Not only that, he needs to renegotiate contracts.

"After all that, I don't think there is a fan who wouldn't understand if Rafa's frustrations led to him considering moving somewhere else.

"I would understand. Me and the vast majority of Liverpool fans would hope it doesn't get to that. But that is a risk you run if it doesn't get sorted."

Former Anfield hitman Dalglish added: "Liverpool have suffered from off-the-field carry-ons.

"I am not in any camp. But George Gillett and Tom Hicks have to come up with a common vision and share the same ambitions for the good of the club."

benitez has brought liverpool as far as he can go in 4 years he should quit now.....keep crouch buy bentley, santa cruz, and dunne and they will challange next season

Who would we replace Benitez with if he was to leave? I still belive that, given the right budget, we can push for the title. I see us as being 2 major signings (a forward and winger) and a couple of squad players (probably full backs) away from a serious challenge. Do you really belive the best think is to undo all the work Benitez has done over the previous season and begin ANOTHER rebuilding process with a new manager! The most successful teams have long term managers not a quick fix..... i'd keep faith with Benitez!

I just want Rafa to stay - he is the man for the job
and lets just hope everything gets sorted soon.

benitez is a great manager the main problem are the confusion of the owners. they have to go both of them they dont like the club running only after money

If they dont go the problems will escalate even if there is the best manager in the world. Time is running out for them to resign and at least be honest.

I think Benitez is the man for the job, They have played some excellent football since he as been in charge. If he is given the right funds then im sure we will see Liverpool win the premiership. Benitez is a great manager and he is the best Liverpool manager they have had for a long time.

I think Rafa should go. He has made a lot of bad buys in his time in charge & wasted a lot of the transfer budget previously. Majority of the Liverpool players now would not fit into the Liverpool team of old. Previous successful Liverpool manager would buy good players who would fit into the system. The way the team plays now is not the attractive football like MU & Arsenal - a very boring counter attacking team who are not confident of keeping possession & passing. Even Blackburn can pass better. He also does not care about history & statistic eg the way he rotated the team resulting in humiliating defeat eg 6-3 thrashing buy Arsenal in the Carling Cup at Anfield and various defeats in other games. He should learn from Fergie & Wenger how to buy the right players and play interesting football. It saddens me as a Liverpool fan as we neither play attractive football nor winning the EPL (which matters most to the fan)

the people who say rafa should go don't have a clue about football, tell me another manager who could liverpool could get right now that could help us close the gap on the top 2 , 1 jose don't make me laugh . the only one has got the england job .
rafa is class all he needs is the support and the funds . a true football fan LFC for life

Tell him to sod off now and leave our Captain alone!!

hope rafa stays, sack useless parry,2 fullbacks and a winger and we are ready to challenge, get money back by selling kuyt, aurelio, riise, pennant, vorinin and swap itange for a bag of crisps.

Rafa has got the right ideas with his rotation just not the players to come in when the big players are left out. Our end of season results show the players have more energy whilst the likes of Everton who haven't got a big enough squad to rotate have had a dire end of the season due to tiredness. Improvments on the fringe players will enable us to challenge. Rafa isn't daft and knows the likes of Voronin, Riise, Kewell have had their time at the club.

I'm not Rafa's biggest fan, but to say we've played boring football is a complete load of rubbish. It's goals that we all pay to see at a football match and if the current team are so boring how come we have outscored every other premiership team this season (total goals in all competitions) and that includeds the fantasy footballers of Arsenal, Utd & Chelsea.

i love all of these comments that say Liverpool could challenge for the title if Benitez had the right budget? I forgot that Liverpool have spent no money since he arrived...

Everton have spent wisely on players who have turned into established premier league performers, far less than Liverpool. Since Benitez started you are no closer to winning the league and your good champions league forms disguises that failing. You were scrapping it for fourth with us until a few weeks ago! I hope he stays and that form continues!

rafa has got to stay, out with those yanks and parry, sell pennant/voronin/kewell/alonso/riise because they are simply not preforming to our standard, bring in gareth barry/ 2 wingers and a full back and i we would be where we want to be at the top of the league

I think the situation at the club at the moment is a joke, but no way can the manager be blamed for the clubs misfortunes. Lads get off rafa's back, alrite a few bad signings but name 1 manager who hasn't. Although at times i'm pullin the hair outa my head over da rotational system,i think he will learn to keep the backbone of the team intact. Whats needed now is a show of support for the manager by da owners, who shud open their wallets for da couple of players we need,so we can once again be a force in the league, but also from da disgruntled fans who seem to be talkin out of their bottoms by askin for the managers head on a plate, wise up.

a pool fan too the bone go on u reds.

The problem with clubs that have been taken over by foreign investors is that the long term stability of the clubs always seems to suffer. Very few clubs seem to prosper. Yes chelsea have won cups and man utd also but not without there problems. People always seem to mention how long it took fergie to get where he is now but had the situation been like it is now fergie would not be at man utd now and the success they have seen would be gone. The future in football is investment from outside sources but i feel there should be some tighter contracts in place (even if new owners come in)The interests of the clubs first not the greedy investors.

i want Rafa to stay but got a feeling he will go :(
He's got eye for talent like torres, barry, bentley eg an should buy them also he should look into buying a striker since crouch is going. Like berbatov, ben afra or drogba :):):) but drobga probs wont come with the chapions leauge insitdent :(

Lay off Rafa. most of you dont know what you are talking about when you are saying he has wasted money. So Wenger didnt waste money on Cygnan or Reyes. How bout Fergie's 28 Million on Veron. Rafa tried to get the best his dosh could afford some of them where not suited to the English game which is massively different to continental footie. You cannot tell me that Morientes was not class? he just did not fit into the English style.

Alonso, Torres, Mascharano, Skrtel, Arbeloa, Babel, Garcia, Agger, Reina & Carson are all Rafa's signings and he also persuaded Gerrard to stay. So he aint that bad. he won the title twice in Spain against big spenders Madrid and Barcelona. FA cup, League Cup, Champs league, Super Cup.

In 12mths Fergie spent nearly 70 million on midfield players like Carrick, Hargreaves, Nani, Anderson. Chelsea have spent 300 million plus since Rafa came to L'Pool. Only Wenger can say he dont spend lots of cash. Arsene's transfer record his second to none.

I can't believe what i'm reading here
you lot don't have a clue
if Benitez stays for the next 10 years we'll have to make two trophy rooms.plus if Benitez did go what about Torres? will he go to?

Rafa should buy or exchange players carefully this time a round. He should be experienced enough to know which players are suitable & which are not. No more squad players, trial & error or players with limited capabilities. I would still think players with EPL experience could fit into the system faster as compared to outside players. He should start to build up the Liverpool brand again & it should start with delivering on the pitch with the EPL. Don't just buy any player. He must buy special players, not necessarily expensive but suitable for Liverpool and could bring us forward. He has made the right decision with Torres. Babel is good. But Aurelio, Benayoun, Kuyt, Lucas, Voronin are average players who could not fit into MU, Chelsea or Arsenal team.

Even Alonso is not good enough, too slow for EPL, always losing possession in own areas. Mascherano is OK but overpriced. He's not a finished article yet - he was overshadowed by Makalele in the Champions League semifinal game at Stamford Bridge.

Barry & Bentley are good additions with proven track records in the EPL. Liverpool should still have English core players especially local lads like Gerrard & Carragher, who will always play their hearts out. Players who are Liverpool fan thru & thru since kids, will also be good.

To sell Liverpool to the rest of the world especially Asia, the shirt sponsor should be changed from liqour related brand to other brands who are more acceptable in various part of the world. Trust me, if its a sponsor like 'Candy' previously you will see more people wearing the Liverpool jersey everywhere you go.

i think rafa should stay..we should give him a time..he juz stay for 4 years, and his highest achvmnt is champ league..fergie and wenger have not won anthng valuable like champ leadue for 4 years in their back days..it took fergie for 2 decades to have his best teams, and wenger 10 years.. the money that man u or chelsea have for buying world class player are more than liverpool..but we can still keep it up..not all player suit for every team and country.. for me since benitez came he have buy a good player such as torres, babel, alonso, skrtel, reina, and other more...even they all are not expensive but they are very potential world class player if they have good attitude, mind, and good team...
although liverpool play an augly football(counteratck)but benitez is master on tactical..he what are the best tactical and players to play againt other oppenent..every player have their own skill, characteristic and mind..
so i hope for all the liverpool fans be patient.. we will be champ again

Rafa is a top European Coach. Hes proved that already with Liverpool and Valencia. At Valencia he showed with good backing he can win LEAGUE titles.
The press need to give Rafa a Break and let him work is magic. He is a magician and a tactical genius in my eyes and having met him in person, Red through and through. We are three top signings away from pushing United and Chelsea all the way, Pablo Aimar, Phillip Mexes and Mancini.... Sort him the money and lets be league title winners for a 19th time. John, Merseyside

torres sed if benitez goes he wud consider leaving so unless you want 26.5m to go 2 waste... shhhhhh! ;)

I don't see what all the fuss is about..people keep saying Rafa has to go..i see it as rubbish..what did Fergie win in his first 5 years? and now he has a dynasty that will live on for a long time...Similarly arsenal have had some success by sticking with their manager..Benitez is getting closer.. the signing of Torres, Babel and Skrtel have gone a long way to improving the squad... couple of more top quality additions and we will be challenging...he has made us a force in Europe and cup competitions...not to mention he broke the Barca-Real monopoly in the La Liga...So let the haters hate...In Rafa We Trust...

I really hope Rafa stays. When we played Rafa's Valencia it was like watching Liverpool of old. At that time we were a defensive team.He is now our Manager and we are an exciting side to watch again. The reserves have won their league and everything looks good for the future.

Rick Parry and David Moores have made a big mistake with bringing in the Americans. It is now their responsibility to sort out this mess that they have created.I would love Share Liverpool to own the club or someone who cares and understands what the club is all about but not Dubai.

Rafa is nice guy and is right for us and we are right for him.Its the ownership that needs to be worked out.I agree with the comment about the sponsers needing to be changed away from alcohol.
