Kop boss ready to challenge Hicks
RAFA'S KLIN SHOCK
EXCLUSIVE By CHRIS BASCOMBE
RAFA BENITEZ will challenge Tom Hicks on claims the American still uses Jurgen Klinsmann as an advisor.
The News of the World understands Klinsmann's representatives contacted Liverpool officials to warn them that Benitez's early transfer plans had been passed to their man.
The club were stunned to discover Klinsmann's view was sought on the quality of at least one target they are in the process of scouting.
The revelation will antagonise boss Benitez, who has sent private e-mails to co-owner Hicks outlining the players he wants to recruit for a title assault next season.
Knowledge
He will want an investigation into how Klinsmann could know the identity of his targets.
Klinsmann, who was interviewed for the Kop hotseat last November, has since been named the next Bayern Munich manager.
There would be nothing to stop him sending the German club's scouts to watch the same players and bidding higher.
A source close to Hicks insists ‘to their knowledge' there has been no contact between the co-owner and Klinsmann for months. If so, that will leave Benitez baffled as to how Klinsmann knew the contents of his e-mails.
The latest claims end a turbulent week when Euro success was overshadowed by Hicks' explosive letter calling for chief executive Rick Parry's resignation.
All parties agree Benitez had no idea about the document.
Refused
He refused to take questions on the latest controversy ahead of today's visit of Blackburn.
Benitez's love affair with The Kop has intensified following Tuesday's win over Arsenal and his supporters are eager for him to distance himself from the sentiments of the Hicks letter.
The majority of the board, fans and players stand firmly behind Parry and George Gillett in the dispute.
What are these Americans doing to my beloved football club..???..Dont they knw that we are LIVERPOOL FC..PLESE ohhhhhhhhhh please Dubai if your intentions are true make your play and take this cancer spreading through ourer board room out, before its to late..YNWA..

I'm a Liverpool supporter, and though I must say that whilst Benitez has at times been frustrating with his team selection, he has definitely been mostly good news for us. Without the ridiculous financial power of Chelsea or Man Utd it is near impossible to challenge for the title over the length of a season, but to Rafa's credit he has made us into a considerable force in Europe. Under his management Liverpool have truly become a deserved fixture at football's top table again.
All this said, right now I would not blame him if he just walked at any moment. Unfortunately, I would also understand any of our top players choosing to follow him out the door. The ownership issue of Liverpool Football Club has become a farce of epic proportions over the past season, and to be honest I cannot see an end to the troubles on the immediate horizon. Even ignoring the good-guy / bad-guy situation that is emerging with Gillett and Hicks right now, to have fifty-fifty owners who seem to despise one another, and yet have a say in what the other does with their share is ridiculous.
The best Liverpool supporters can hope for right now is for someone to come along with a whopping great offer, way above the market value of the club, and buy both owners out. Unfortunately, DIC are investors and as such are looking for what they consider to be a good price. Liverpool have reached the point where their only salvation may come at the hands of someone like Abramovich, interested only in the club as a plaything. It is a sad indictment of not just Liverpool's plight, but of English football as a whole.

I've been surprised reading about how Benitez appeared to be aligning himself with Hicks. I'd never question his footballing knowledge but I would now have to question his political acumen.
Surely he reads the forums and is aware of the general hatred amongst fans towards the man?
I hope this opens his eyes. Who else could have forwarded on this private correspondence? He needs to distance himself from Hicks ASAP as the association is not good for him. He's being used.

Liverpool don't need this squabbling mess at anytime, much less on the brink of more European glory. If LFC are not successful after this then the owners need not blame anyone but themselves. It could be another example of American 'friendly fire' and the Reds will be the casualty.

I blame Rick Parry and the Moores family, had they not gone with DIC in the first place, we would not be in this situation.

To Kev,
I am glad that you find the situation so amusing. I am assuming that you are a fan of Manure or Chelski.
To complete your amusement you could rub our noses in it by showing us your record 18 League Titles or your 5 European Cups. What!! Can none of our rivals produce those?
Liverpool FC is going through a troubled period. However, when it comes to gathering trophies, we're still LAUGHING at the rest of you!!

its all very confusing, Hicks seemed to be the bad guy, the one coming out and making himself look stupid but now he says that gillet arranged Klins-gate and also that Parry is hindering Benitez in the transfer market, where liverpool are struggling most and having to field inadequates, voronin pennant riise even kuyt. But now Rafa is backing him, he has said that he will give rafa a long contract and 30 mill in the summer plus aim to remove the liverpool debt by the opening of stanley park in 2011, so what do you believe?? also if the Klinsman thing is true who gave him the info, no doubt on Rafinha.

USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA.
What is this club about, plastic fans who only know the history since 2005. From the board to the fans they are a modern club and everything thats wrong with todays sanitised football.

Some of these comments are laughable!!
FAO Adam: "Surely he reads the forums" Haha!
Yes Adam, I'm sure Rafa reads every liverpool fans forum and all the comments on the them!! Get a grip man, he's got better things to do with his time! The naivity and dellusion of some Liverpool fans is brilliant at times!

Wayne,
He's promising the sun, the moon & the stars again, just like when he promised there'd be no debt on the club. He hasn't put a penny of his own money into the club as yet so it'll be another £30m of debt mate (as if we didn't have enough already).
The criticisms of Parry are mostly fair but that isn't why he's trying to get rid of him. He's outnumbered 4 to 2 on the Board and so needs to get his puppy Ian Ayre in before Gillett sells to DIC. Parry should only go once the club is in DIC's hands.
Don't believe a word that Hicks says. He's lied to us in the past and is doing so now. Read up on what he did to Corinthians in Brazil.

it is a poor day for liverpool football club when they want to get one of the best manegers they have had in years is being kicked out of the club when he has bought in great players and has won the champions league , fa cup , european super cup, got to the final of another champions league the world club championship and a carling cup final in less than 4 years at the club and has used less money than that of both chelsea and man u and got to more cup finals than both put togetther and hicks does not seem to see this rafa has also gave the team players like reina , torres ,alonso, babel, arbeloa, agger, skrtel, mascherano and who can forget kuyt rafa has been the best maneger for years and if anybody should be leaving the club it should be the new owners who should be out on their ears not the manager the sooner that DIC buy the club the better as the team will play better and finally win the title that has slipped out of their grasp season after season hicks has no right to go talking to other managers he should be putting all his support in to the manager that the club has this is what gillet has finally realised that he should be doing and has started doing it hicks could learn a lesson or two from gillet . hicks might have made it big in Americain football but he will not succed in the preimer league if he goes on the way that he is going as he has lost the support of the staff, players and fans of the club for the reason like what he is doing to rafa but he has also started on the great rick parry who has been dedicated to the team for so many years
the owners should leave well out of the club and just be used when the club say that they should be as the club won trophys when they were not there now that they have arrived the club have won what nothing.

We could see this coming a mile off. Its my view that Rafa will walk and so will some of the bigger players. I heard a rumour that Gerard is considering a move overseas. Win or lose the Champions league he will probably go.

they can do what they want as they own the club so david moores can say what he wants and blled his heart but he sold and thats it. I don't see too many people in business selling their company and then getting a seat on the board and guaranteed tickets to cup finals, the same goes for the other shareholders too, so what if the yanks have messed it up I didn't hear anyone complain last year when it was obvious at the press conference when hicks said "i looked at the numbers and thought yes i'm in" paraphrasing but you get the jist, so now 12 mths on and we have turmoil? rafa has no money to spend? when the word is the players don't like him anyway and wouldn't shed a tear if he went, we are nowhere near the championship, at best we struggle for 4th place very year, and if champs league football was 3rd place we would struggle for that, the players do enough to get 4th thats all and obviously have a bonus system linked to qualifying from the group stages at the champs league.
overall it doesn't suprise me the club has ben in demise for years and we don't havea divine right to win anything or to criticise people who own the club...if the fans wanted the club so bad and not to have "custodians" they should have bought last year, so stop moaning.

As much as I love having a manager like rafa at liverpool challenging in europe, it annoys me that he keeps using the rotation policy that never works in the english league. Using the excuse to keep the players fresh in the latter stages of the campaign, when there is often not a lot to play for due to silly results with confusing team selections.

I dont think we as liverpool fans shoyld be worrying about what is going on behind the scenes. Mr benitez has seen the errors of his ways with the rotation system he was using and the off field antics is not affecting our game. We will win the title within two seasons, benitez is the man to do the job no question about it. MARK MY WORDS.

to domo rachdale: I don't know what team Kev supports but I support UTD. l'fool might have won 18 leagues but UTD have won 16, 17 including this season title and R quite able to keep this winning titles for yrs to come. unlike the fools, God only knows when they'll win the league again. As for europe l'fool won four european cups at a time when they where quite rightly the best team in the country, but they only had to play in 5 games to win it. compaired to now when teams play fifteen games along with the 38 league and 5/6 FA cup games to win the treble, something l'fool will never be successfull at. But then again l'fool fans can only live in the past, apart from flooking that CL FINAL U's would have nothing to shout about.

the fact that transfer targets have been disclosed to a 3rd party is shooting yourself in the foot. its bad business sense and a handicap for next season!! but there is a strong valid point being made by stating rick parry, a loyal servant he may be, has hindered the club by not enhancing the club as a global brand and expanding the business and merchandising side to reach the level of our main rivals. this is has cost us dearly! there is a element of truth in what hicks is saying and intresting to know parry was also in the meeting with klinsmann. although hated, hicks does have some valid points!!!!
