The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep
By Ian McCreath
For all the state-of- the- art special effects from the team behind Lord of the Rings, Hollywood's take on the nessie story harks back to gentler times when story, character and atmosphere were considered just as important and CGI mayhem and carnage.
Wartime Scotland. A lonely young boy takes home a strange object he finds on a beach. He soon realizes it's a magical egg and finds himself raising an amazing mythical 'water horse'.
Together they begin an extraordinary journey of discovery and friendship.
The relationship between the lonely boy and the great Scottish beastie feels genuine and heart felt, and you'll find yourself rooting for them both as they seek to keep their secret away from the interfering oldies.
This is no ET- but by showing that a kid's film doesn't have to be based on a comic book, 'The Water Horse' feels like a welcome breath of clean Scottish air.
Fun, intelligent and atmospheric, this is one DVD the whole family can enjoy this summer.
