The Inbetweeners- Series 1
By Ian McCreath
If your memories of teenage years include bunking off, binge drinking and fancying your best mate's mum, then 'The Inbetweeners' is the series for you.
The pain and the pleasure of adolescence has long been a rich source of excruciating laughs and E4's first original sitcom doesn't disappoint.
Offensive? Yes.
Crude and juvenile? Most definitely.
Hilariously funny? You betcha.
Public school new boy joins a comprehensive, gets ridiculed, makes friends, then attempts to get a shag.
OK the plots no prize winner but then what do you expect from a series which runs with the tag line 'Basically they just want to get laid'?
What counts here is how brilliantly the series captures the razor sharp banter, cutting insults and the utterly ridiculous situations we all know and fondly remember from our own inbetween years.
Totally unpretentious and thoroughly authentic, 'The Inbetweeners' somehow emerges from the mire of innuendo, shag jokes and vomit with a great deal of charm and more than its fair share of belly laughs.
Recommended viewing for teenagers of any age.
