Cashback
By Robbie Collin
STRUGGLING artist Ben (Sean Biggerstaff, aka Oli Wood from Harry Potter) is ditched by girlfriend Suzy (Michelle Ryan) and takes a job at a local Sainsbury's to use up his free time.
Happily, a good 80 per cent of the shoppers are of the Page 3 Keeley variety—and he spends his shifts imagining them naked, so he can quickly "knock out a sketch" during his break (not heard that one before).
Ben also has to put up with the genuinely amusing antics of dimwit co-workers (breasts are involved) and flirts with sexy checkout girl Sharon, played by Emilia Fox (yup, breasts again).
Cashback's an odd mix of Phoenix Nights-style gags, artsome-fartsome musings on the nature of life, and a near-endless procession of supple, jiggling boobs.
Which for the most part does me nicely but, annoyingly, falters towards the end.
It isn't quite a British Clerks (the US cult hit), but it's a solid debut effort from writer-director Sean Ellis and a promising sign of good things to come for all involved.
One unanswered question still plaguing me, however. Where the hell is this babe-packed supermarket?
