Supergrass, London Astoria
NEARLY 15 years after their first hit, are Supergrass still, well, all right? Nah, they’re way better than that.
Teenagers when they started charting, drummer Danny Goffey and bassist Mick Quinn only look about 15 now (singer Gaz Coombes is going bald, but hides that under a stetson).
And they still play like a bunch of kids, tearing through hits like Caught By The Fuzz as if it’s the first time. "People ask us how we’ve stayed together so long," says Coombes. "The answer is nights like this."
It’s not just some Britpop revival night, though. They had a rough couple of albums, but new album Diamond Hoo Ha is back to quality pop.
Not many Britpoppers could get kids crowdsurfing to new stuff, especially not when it’s got a sax solo like the barking Whisky And Green Tea.
A black mark for letting Goffey sing new ballad Ghost Of A Friend but, as their old hit puts it, they still deserve to be pumping on your stereo
