Ratatouille

By Ian McCreath
A loveable rat? We must be talking Disney.
Well Disney Pixar to be precise- and Ratatouille is their most accomplished and confident serving yet.
Remy, a rat with a dream, leaves the family sewer to seek his fame and fortune as a gourmet chef.
With an awkward garbage boy as cover for his culinary exploits, the pair overcome all odds and melt the heart of hardened food critic Anton Ego.
With a fairly low key plot, Ratatouille's success depends upon making us care for the hopes and dreams of its characters.
The fact it achieves this so brilliantly, is why this film is so special.
Ratatouille is a classic to be loved by everyone.
After all, it's easier for adults to respond to stories of genuine warmth and humour than it is for children to get the knowing in-jokes dominating most modern animation.
Life affirming, five star cinema has long been a house speciality at Pixar.
This beautifully crafted masterpiece is good enough to be their signature dish.
