Fern Britton's fat lie

FERN, you should have just TOLD us!

In all honesty I’m sure no one would have thought any the less of Fern Britton if she’d said she'd had a gastric band fitted.

She obviously desperately wanted to lose weight – despite her protests to the contrary – and she felt she needed help.

Fair enough.

But all the pretending that she’d done it by simple exercise and healthy eating has just made her look rather sad.

oh Fern I was in awe actually of your new shape & thought WOW but really you are a cheat and how can you not admit the real weight loss....

It's no ones business how she lost the weight. If someone wants inspiration then they should get it from their own will power & desire 2 be more healthy, not from celeb inspiration. All celebs have surgery at some point & deny it so no surprise. Even non-celebs deny physical alterations so it's just human nature!

p.s. I'm 100% against plastic/ cosmetic surgeries 4 beautification, but no need 2 bring fairly decent people down.

As someone who had gastric band surgery (nearly 18 months ago) I can say it is NOT Plastic surgery.

Nothing is sucked out or re-arranged to make you look better. A small band is placed around your stomach to make you feel like you want to eat less.

You must diet and exercise to lose the weight. It is as simple as that.

You only can eat a cup or so of food at a time.

But if you want to, you could still eat a cup of chocolate you can but you wouldn't lose any weight.

It is very difficult to decide to have this surgery, mainly to admit you need help.

I have told people but in my own time. Most people are supportive.

It is life-saving surgery. I have lost 7 stone.

I don't care how someone loses weight but at least be honest about the way you do it! Fern is a role model to thousands in this country. Why oh why didn't she come out with this at the start?

I have admired her so so much, she looks incredible but she has made it look like it was all just healthy eating and exercise - utter rubbish.

I'm also on a weight loss regime (having lost 3 stone with pure hard work, no band) and I admit even though I had the will power to do it on my own, she was an inspiration to me along the way in a 'if she can do it that way, i can do it' way!!

I still think she looks fabulous, but I always believed what she said about diet and exercise :( Bah.

I love watching Fern on This Morning & will carry on doing so. I am disapointed as I thought she had done this on her own & I was insired by this as I am trying also to lose quite a bit of weight.
The only positive thing I can think of to come out of this is that as I struggle to lose weight I can think that its not my fault if its not coming off as easily as it has for her as I don't have a band fitted, its a pity we can't get it done on the NHS as she is proof it works & then maybe there wouldn't be so much obesity.

I have no problem with her having this done but I have a big problem with the fact she lied.

She sits on the show appalled at some people for lying on certain subjects then does it herself!!

I have to admit I knew it!! I told everyone she must have had help but no one believed me as they have so much respect for her!! Thank goodness i'm not so niave!

This being blown out of proportion. The band would only have been a help in the intial stages to allow a healthy life style to be established. If she was still binging on chocolate and not taking exercise she would still be fat. If you are going to diet successfully you need to do it for youself no-one else, she is clearly doing this for herself.
Most people are fat due to comfort eating. I am sure being in the public eye is stressful and taking solice in food is understandable.
Fern was an attractive looking woman with bubbly personality before she lost the weight. Now she is still that woman just a bit thinner. Why can't her fans just be happy for her

I think it's up to Fern to decide if she wants to tell people about the gastric band. I'm not sure that I would have wanted anyone to know because it's admitting that you don't have the willpower to do it on your own. I agree with one of the other comments though - she could still have chosen the wrong food e.g. a cup of chocolate. Okay so she has been economical with the truth but technically she has eaten less and done more exercise. The people who were previously inspired to lose weight because of Fern and who will now give up because 'she lied' need to stop looking for excuses to stay as they are. We are all responsible for ourselves and shouldn't lay it at a celebs door.

I am a bit disappointed in Fern - she was inspiration for me too. But Julie do take heart - February 2007 I weighed almost 20 and a half stone, I joined the local gym - yes at first I couldn't do a sit up but I didn't give up. I saw a dietician privately and to date I have lost 7 stone. I am fitter and what is more I know I am the size I am now due to what I am eating not down to a band in my body. Good luck to anyone trying to lose weight - you don't have to have surgery to do it - just perserverence and get real information from experts.

Hey ho, thats life, get over it, shes not the first and won't be the last. How Fern lost her weight is her business and if she has had a band fitted then she probably never said anything because that would of been the wrong way to lose her weight as well. However she did it the most important thing is the weight has now gone and i'm sure thats only a good thing for all sorts of reasons. It doesnt change her or her personality, shes still lovely and a fantastic role model.

It doesnt bother me in the slightest. Dont know why people get on their high horse UNLESS she was selling some book or video endorsed by her weight loss.
Im sure people dont watch this mornign just to see her weight loss so I dont understabd what the big deal is.

Leave Fern alone! I think she looks absolutely fab and if that's the way she's managed to do it, good on her!! If she's chosen to keep this quiet then so be it, it's her choice. Why does everybody have this fascination with bringing down all the well liked celebrities. Fair enough if they're caught taking drugs, having affairs or beating people up, but she's not so leave it!!!

This news really saddens me . I have, up until now always thought that Fern was someone with integrity and its upsetting to find that she has lied and mislead . If she had been open and honest from the start then I dont think anyone would have minded one bit but it is the misleading information that hurts and takes away trust . She has given countless interviews on how she did this and never a mention of surgery , just her own hard work , give that money back Fern and show that at least you have a heart

so fern didnt tell the truth about how she has lost weight.GOOD FOR HER.why do some people think that they should know all the ins and outs of the famous.they have private lives too.i dont see any thing wrong with what fern has done.all i can say is WELL DONE FERN.

But she did do it herself, gastric band surgery just reduces the size of your stomach. Had she not started cycling etc and eating more healthily she still wouldn't have lost as much weight and certainly wouldn't be as toned as she is.

Why do people assume a gastric band is cosmetic surgery when it isn't? If any of you who are castigating her watched the TV show 73 Stone Dad you would have seen that he also had a gastric band but he had to change his eating habits and start gentle exercise (building it up as he lost weight) for it to have any positive effect.

So well done Fern for your weight loss and getting yourself into shape after you lost the weight.

Why did you do it Fern? we all thought yu were a role model and beautiful as yu were, someone who was a plus size and proud of it, very dissapointed in your choice of weight loss.

What a disapointment, I have always thought of Fern as decent woman its not the way she's done it but not owning up to it. I think she looks fab now though. But she did'nt lie she just did'nt tell the truth shame.
