THE new iPod shuffle is half the size of the previous one and it talks to you.
At Apple's London HQ, we were given a demo of the VoiceOver function which enables the third generation Shuffle to speak your song titles, artists and playlist names.
Blasting out through a Bose speaker dock, the sound quality from the world's smallest MP3 player was
amazing. This little fella is tinier than an AA battery and holds up to 1,000 songs with the controls located on the earphone lead. Press the central pad once and it gives you the track info, using the voice of Alex used in the Mac's Leopard operating system. Press it for a bit longer and you'll get a list of your playlists. Curiously the PC version of the voice sounds effeminate in comparison to Alex.
You also play, pause and adjust volume using this control. The only button on the device is the on/off shuffle switch. It's all so simple. So Apple.
And this newshuffle features a slicknew aluminium design with a built-in stainless steel clip that makes it ultra-wearable, like a tie-pin. Team it up with some Apple in-ear phones and you have the ultimate gym accessory.
The third gen 4GB iPod shuffle comes in silver or black for £59.
