Devil May Cry 4
Format: Xbox 360/PlaySatation 3
Genre: Action
Rating: 16+
Out: Now
HELL OF A GAME
YOU’LL be weeping tears of joy thanks to the demon-slaying action romp that is Devil May Cry 4. It’s been six years since Dante first burst into the gaming world and despite a poor appearance in DMC2, it’s got better and better for the half-man, half-demon character. However, this time Capcom have a new leading fella called Nero with whom you can unleash massive attacks and cracking combos with the Devil Bringer arm. DMC4 offers a blockbuster plot, cool soundtrack and some newish weapons to have fun with. However, the overall gameplay isn’t a huge leap from DMC3 (apart from the online option – at last!). Visually, this game is stunning and it’s nice to take a button-bashing break to watch the magical cut-scenes. This, along with some hell-raising, albeit somewhat familiar action, makes this a monster game.
VERDICT: Devil worshiper
RATING: 8.5/10

TIME TUROK ’N’ ROLL – BUT ONLY FOR A BIT BLASTING countless rounds from a smoking machine gun at a giant T-Rex sounds like a blast – and it is. But sadly, this dino-killing thrill only comes in short bursts and then it’s back to a rather boring stroll through the jungle. You play Joeseph Turok, who’s lucky to survive a spaceship crash but unlucky to wake up on a strange planet populated by nasty creatures, dinosaurs and angry soldiers wanting to waste him. This game won’t trouble your brain or your ability to conserve ammo and shoot accurately. Enemy AI is a bit daft but it’s harder to complete than you might think. Having said this, Turok is fun for a while and there are some cool surprises – like the little cut-scene for a close-combat knife-kill. It’s not that bad, but then it’s not that good either. VERDICT: Fun shooter but Dino-sore points exist RATING: 6.8 /10

GOLD AT THE END OF RAINBOW
IT’S Vegas, baby . . . again! Another must-have this spring is the return of Ubisoft's mega-hit tactical shooter, Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. Release date looks set for March 20 and the rappelling action, window smashin', terrorist droppin' fun is bound to be even
better than its predecessor. Smarter AI on the single player mode and players being able to join online matches already in progress are just a couple of improvements. Oh, and instead of Logan Keller, you'll take on the role as some chap called Bishop. Scope out the guns-a-blazin' preview above.
GEARING UP FOR SEQUEL
REMEMBER, remember the start of November - cause that's when Microsoft launch the eagerly-awaited Gears Of War 2. We hear that the fantastic follow-up to the 4.5million-selling blockbuster Gears Of War delves deeper into humanity's struggle for survival against the nightmarish Locust Horde. Epic Game’s GOTW2 promises to take hi-def visuals to a whole new level, which it could do with right now after being beaten black and blu-ray. Cliff Bleszinkski, lead designer for Epic Games, revealed: "Gears Of War 2 is an even bigger, better and more badass experience than the first game." Can't wait.
Samsung Mobile vice president Mark Mitchinson led a team of runners on a 5k event in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Gadgits was there to do our bit for the cause. Dressed as Rocky, Mark (above), who is training for the London marathon, clocked a time of under 25 minutes. Gadgits knows this because he beat our best time of 25 minutes nine seconds . . . and he was way ahead of us at the finishing line. The 5K Fun Run around Battersea Park on Thursday was just one of many fundraising events that Samsung Mobile is organising in 2008. All proceeds are being donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as part of Mark’s Flora London Marathon (13th April 2008) campaign.
To all those of you who sponsored Gadgits' effort after our appeal last week, many thanks. But please don't let it stop there. For more information on Mark’s training, or to donate to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, please log on to Mark’s training website www.marathonmitch.com
Sony's latest laptop has a new feature which is bound to be eventually adopted by all notebooks and laptops - embeded WANN. Put simply, it's an in-built mobile phone broadband modem with a sim card which allows you to access 3G and HSDPA networks*. So you can browse the web anywhere you can receive a mobile phone signal. You won't need a USB modem and it will fire up at a keystroke. It also comes with wi-fi. The Vaio TZ31 WN/B is packed full of amazing features and is the most connective laptop we've seen. The bluetooth connection is ultra fast for loading up pics and contacts from your phone. It's lighter than the Macbook Air but it manages to pack an in-built DVD rewriter. It's preloaded with Adobe Premiere so you can edit and burn DVDs on the move. And the 2GB of memory and 120GB hard disc gives you plenty of space to use multimedia programs. On sale this week, it comes in MN and WN versions, starting at £1500.
*Accessed by the integrated SIM card slot, the Wireless WAN module provides Internet connectivity with a speed up to 3.6 Mbps enabled by T-Mobile Web `n` Walk.

NINTENDO have reinvented the wheel to come up with the Wii-eel for an exciting new verison of their brilliant Mario Kart game.
Bundled with a steering wheel to drive a host of new characters around stunning new tracks, Mario Kart Wii launches on April 11th.
You’ll be able to take on up to 11 players simultaneously worldwide using the Nintendo Wi-Fi web
connection and upto four people in multiplayer mode at home.
There’s even an option to ditch the kart and race on a bike. And you can use your Mii caricatures in game for the first time. Wii can’t wait to get our hands on it.
SOPPY bloggers wept buckets of virtual tears when Polaroid put an end to instant film.
But Gadgits can reveal that the film giant is launching a DIGITAL version this year.
Scheduled for release late this summer, the next-generation camera will incorporate an ink-free printer to produce instant pics.
However, it will also store your shots so you can keep your favourite ones in your digital library at home.
The new camera is expected to start at £149, with a top-of-the-range model at £199.
You’ll get the best of both worlds with this new camera—the ability to share party pics just after they are taken. But no more rows about who gets to keep the instant picture, because you can print it out as many times as you want. The ZINK printer (zero ink, geddit?), as previously mentioned on Gadgits, uses paper with embedded colour layers which come to life as they pass a thermal sensor.
If you still have a Polaroid instant like this one pictured you’d better hurry if you want to stockpile any of the film that’s still left—it’s already going for around £7 a sheet on eBay.
Meanwhile, if you’ve got stacks of old slides and negatives hidden away in a cupboard, why not
convert them to JPEGS to have them on your PC.
The Negative Scanner transfers 35mm negatives and mounted slides direct onto your computer simply at the push of a button.
It’s 5MP sensor makes them high-res images and ready to view and print in seconds. You can reminisce for just £89.99 at iwoot.com.

HERE are Dixons’ top three Blu-Ray bargains, announced after their site had a 150 per cent increase in customer searches for the hi-def players.
The surge in interest follows this week’s announcement that Toshiba is scrapping the rival HD DVD format. Dixons.co.uk has since withdrawn all models of HD-DVD player.
Managing Director at Dixons, deVere Forster, said:: “This is good news for consumers as the availability of a single format will allow consumers to purchase the High Definition Blu-Ray format DVD player with every confidence and enjoy all the benefits that this fantastic format has to offer.
“Now that the winning format is clear, Dixons.co.uk’s aim is to have the UK’s widest selection of Blu Ray players available for customers soon.”
Bizarrely, another website is recommending buyers cash in on the losing HD DVD format.
Toshiba has ordered the country’s electrical retailers to slash the prices of their HD-DVD players in a bid to clear the shelves.
Gadgits is joining Samsung Mobile’s Cystic Fibrosis Trust Fun Run on Thursday at midday in London’s Battersea Park. Please make a donation at www.marathonmitch.com
Electronics giant Toshiba has ditched HD DVD, signalling that Blu-Ray has won the high definition format war.
But, announcing they would cease shipments of players by the end of next month, the company pledged to continue supporting customers who have already bought one of their HD DVD products.
The Japanese firm will continue to market conventional DVD players and recorders.
The move effectively makes Sony the victor in the high-definition war which mirrored the Betamax v VHS video tape batte of the 80s.
As predicted by Gadgits a year ago the superior quality Blu-Ray technology - with almost twice the storage space of HD DVD on a DVD-size disk and the closest frame-per-second rate to cinema film - emerged on top after winning the widest backing in the movie industry.
It also follows a series of defections to the Blu-ray camp by major US retailers, which came on the back of disappointing HD DVD sales.
In the US, Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Netflix recently announced they would cut their support for HD DVD and exclusively stock Blu-ray discs.
The decision by the retailers came closely behind January's announcement by Warner Brothers that it would drop HD DVD to focus solely on Blu-ray.
Paramount and Universal are now the only major studios still supporting HD DVD.
Sony's slick campaign included pushing out more Blu-Ray players in the shape of the PS3 gaming console and strategic popular Blu-Ray releases such as James Bond movie Casino Royale.
Now consumers no longer have to hold back to buy into the superior video technology, so we can expect even faster growth in Blu-Ray. The only downside might be that Blu-Ray releases could actually go up in price, or at least not be so heavily discounted, because of the lack of competition.
The Geek Squad’s Lee Williams brings you his final nuggets from sunny Barcelona.
Movies on the go
For a few years now, you've probably heard mobile phone networks and manufacturers boasting that you can watch live TV and movies on your handset. The reality is that this service has never really caught on to a point of people watching a full episode of 24 on the way home from work. But this all looks set to finally change. Boffins at T-Mobile and Orange are setting up trials in London of a new mobile technology that could potentially give you up to 100 channels on the move. Also, mobile movies have been given a boost with the unexpected appearance here in Barcelona of Isabella Rossellini. She has produced some short movies especially for viewing on mobile phones. Bizarrely the five minute-long films investigate the sex lives of insects....Enough said!
Please don't stop the music
...And you won't need to thanks to LG. They've updated their mobile phone music software to bring you MusicStation Max. It's a clever idea to try and wean you off your iPod by offering unlimited music downloading during your 18 month contract. You'll just need to make sure you have enough expandable
memory to store all the songs. The exact handsets the service will run on are still under wraps for now but it's sure to be a big hit with the music junkies. Perhaps it'll be on the new KF600 and KF700 which have been announced out here. Both are touch screen numbers whereby the main menu changes depending on what you want to do- whether its listening to music, watching video clips or sending a simple text message. Both of these should be reaching UK shores at the end of the month.

The iPhone has certainly come up against some renewed competition this year at the Mobile World Congress. Samsung has thrown its latest contender into the ring with the announcement of the F480. Looking not too dissimilar to the iPhone, the F480 has the familiar touch screen features of other competitors such as the LG Prada and Armani phones. However, it packs a 5MP camera and speedy 3G connectivity to bring it
right up to date. There's also a very intuitive menu for scrolling through with your finger, and a built in radio. Not too long to wait for this one either- expected spring 2008.
So that's it for another year in Barcelona. As the handsets are all packed up and shipped back to their laboratories for more testing, it won't be too long before the finished things are lining the shelves of your nearest Carphone Warehouse store. For the latest news check out

GOOGLE'S Android mobile phone internet service might not initially run as smoothly as the impressive demos (above) in Barcelona this week. The exciting competitor to Apple's iPhone service will cause an unpredictable demand on mobile phone networks, a website claims. Unlike Apple's iPhone web access, which deals with one provider and can predict usage fairly accurately, Android is expected to be available through all service providers and on several different phone platforms. So it will be harder for Vodafone, Orange, O2 and other phone operators to work out how much to expand their networks. If they invest too little on expanding it there's a risk of 'network busy' messages. If they invest too much they could end up wasting their money through lack of use. Click here for the full geek speak.
Day 2 in Barcelona and yet more announcements on how the future of mobile phones is shaping up. This is Agent Lee Williams here from The Geek Squad to bring you the latest.
Sony Ericsson: Walkman show off
First, Sony Ericsson is giving a great alternative to the iPhone with an updated Walkman phone; the W980. It looks great and has all the music function buttons on the front for easy access. Flip it open and there's even more musical know-how with all the menus you'll need to create playlists for your
favourite tracks. There's also the addictive Shake control which allows you to skip tracks with the flick of a wrist- literally. With 8GB of storage (that's space for upto 8,000 songs) there's plenty of space for your music and photos The W980 is also a 3G handset so you'll get super-fast web browsing and downloading.
And it doesn't stop there... You'll find a built-in FM radio and 'name that tune' function that can name any track you hear blaring out the radio at the gym. So keep your ear to the ground for a UK release date...expect early summer this year.
Toshiba dials in a new mobile
Next up, Toshiba has been hard at work designing the latest wacky handset: presenting the G450. We managed to get our hands on a sample here in Barcelona and it's certainly turning heads. The display might be a bit on the small side but the buttons are designed for easy
texting on-the-go. It's also packed in a nice 160MB of memory for lots of music. Connect to your computer and you can simply drag and drop music onto the handset. 3G connective means you'll be doing everything at lightning speed too!
Samsung announces a wave of new handsets
Samsung has been making noise in Barcelona this year too, revealing a number of new not-too-expensive handsets. The fancy L310 with has a girly design and handy calorie counter built-in. Pick from a blingin' gold, chocolate brown or black design. Next up is the G400 which has not one but two touch screens. On the outside you've got your music function whilst the high-res inner screen displays 262,000 colours. That'll make for clear picture viewing!
Finally, I couldn't finish today's blog without mentioning one of the biggest unveilings today- from Google. There's been a lot of excitement recently that Google will be extending its grasp over the universe by taking a lunge at the mobile phone market. It all centres on 'Android' which is an operating system for handsets. It's designed to make using your phone much easier, which hopefully will do for phones what has been done with searching the web. Expect to see Android crashing its way into new handsets later this year.
More to follow tomorrow when the final announcements are made out here in Barcelona. Stay tuned!

SOME amazing new phones have been launched this week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and we asked Lee Williams (left) from The Geek Squad to talk you through them live.
Nokia: Brings home the big screen
First up to impress was Nokia, revealing the N96. Much smoother and sexier than the N95, this number packs a whopping 16GB of storage (that's around 40 hours of video). And if that's not enough, you can add an extra 8GB thanks to the microSD card slot. The boffins at Nokia have also sneaked digital receiver under the shell, meaning you can tune into
your favourite digital TV channels. There's even a 'kickstand' on the back so that you can prop up your handset for easy viewing. Coupled with the fact that DOLBY have this morning announced they'll be packing their technology into future handsets, mobile TV could soon mean much more than squinting at a small screen with poor quality sound. Keeping to its predecessor's style, it's still a dual slider, revealing a keypad to access all your music and movies. A 5MP camera tops off this strong effort from Nokia, which also records top-notch video footage. Expect to see it landing on UK soil sometime late summer (why do they make us wait so long?)
Sony Ericsson: Find your face with new Cyber-shot range
Even before the conference began out here in Barcelona, Sony Ericsson were already making waves with the announcement on Sunday night of three new handsets coming our way this year: The first two are the C902 (below) and the C702. But enough of the numbers and letters, let me explain a little more. Both are designed for the budding photographer in you- with 5 and 3.2 megapixel cameras respectively. According to Sony Ericsson: "One is engineered to let you take more pictures in more places and the other is designed to look as stunning as the pictures it takes". For you outdoor types, the C702 is splash and dust resistant and comes with a built-in GPS preloaded with Google Maps Sat Nav in your pocket!
The C902 offers a more slimline handset with some nifty camera technology ('BestPic, face detection and auto focus) and has some touch-screen keys similar to the popular K850i. The third handset revealed is a totally new offering from them: The Xperia X1. This uses Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system on a large 3 inch touch-screen handset. "With this new brand Sony Ericsson will position itself at the forefront of mobile convergence." This basically means they're going to be squeezing in as much technology as they can to make the handset appealing to those using it for both work and play. The handset packs a 3.2 camera too. Not bad!
Samsung and LG have also made exciting announcements
Samsung has unveiled the F490 and touch-screen 5MP F480. Both good competitors to the iPhone. Then LG took the lid off four new handsets (all touch screen of course). Highlights include the glass front of the KF700 and KF600 with the 700 having a shortcut dial on the back of the phone to switch between functions. Quite an innovation there it will be interesting to see if it gets taken on by other manufacturers. So that's the latest from Barcelona for now. We've had handsets being unveiled quicker than rabbits out of a magician's hat and no doubt tomorrow will be just as exciting.

The Nokia Regent Street flagship store openeded its doors for an exclusive launch and the unveiling of the in-store Meet London exhibition on Thursday night . Celebrities attending included actress Jaime Winstone, rapper Dizzee Rascal (above) footballer Darren Bent, presenter Jenni Falconer, DJ Jodie Harsh, Konnie Huq and Lisa Moorish. The Meet London exhibition is a series of one-off, intimate portraits which capture London in 2008 through subject's eyes to celebrate the new store launch. And it aims to create the biggest ever portrait of London, mapping the city through the connections of its inhabitants rather than by its streets and landmarks.
As a social networking initiative, Londoners are encouraged to introduce a friend, via a mobile portrait made up of text and images, to the city.
Once introduced, the chosen friend then introduces their connection, and so on, creating a chain of unique portraits.

HERE’S Snoop Dogg in Orange’s latest jokey cinema ad. In this episode, Orange’s ‘film-makers’ butt in to a Snoop Dogg session and ask him to rap about talking to women on off-peak mobile calls. “That ain’t my stizzle dizzle,” says Snoop, before walking out. It’s a howl, as they say in our hood.
NOT quite believing this video, we tried sitting on this Panasonic CF-W7 Toughbook and even, very nervously, dropped it from a height of a metre. It still worked perfectly afterwards. With an 80GB hard disk, 6-hour battery life, 12.1-inch screen and fast wi-fi, it’s very light at 1.25kg. It has everything you could want from a laptop? Except a slightly lower price than £1555, perhaps. But if you want a laptop that won't let you down, that's tough luck. Click here for more.
THE fourth series of Lost starts on Sunday, as if you needed reminding. But you might not be aware of the game from Ubisoft that's out on February 29. Take a look at the two videos here and see if you can tell the difference. Seriously, the game graphics are pretty realistic. Our reviewers are looking forward to getting hold of a copy. One has even offered to fly out to the location in Oahu to compare it with the scenes from the game. But in the meantime, you'll just have to make do with the real thing on Sunday.
YOU’LL find the latest series of Lost in virtually every format apart from Betamax from this Sunday.
Apart from on TV, Sky is making episodes available as downloads from Sky Anytime on PC, plus there’s content at Sky.com, and even mobile phone clips from Sky Mobile TV.
But Sky+ and all Sky HD viewers will be able to watch the first two episodes of Series 4 via Sky Anytime on TV, 24 hours before they are broadcast on Sky One.
The first episode will be available tomorrow and the second episode on
