100 TV channels on the move

The Geek Squad’s Lee Williams brings you his final nuggets from sunny Barcelona.

Movies on the go
For a few years now, you've probably heard mobile phone networks and manufacturers boasting that you can watch live TV and movies on your handset. The reality is that this service has never really caught on to a point of people watching a full episode of 24 on the way home from work. But this all looks set to finally change. Boffins at T-Mobile and Orange are setting up trials in London of a new mobile technology that could potentially give you up to 100 channels on the move. Also, mobile movies have been given a boost with the unexpected appearance here in Barcelona of Isabella Rossellini. She has produced some short movies especially for viewing on mobile phones. Bizarrely the five minute-long films investigate the sex lives of insects....Enough said!

Please don't stop the music
...And you won't need to thanks to LG. They've updated their mobile phone music software to bring you MusicStation Max. It's a clever idea to try and wean you off your iPod by offering unlimited music downloading during your 18 month contract. You'll just need to make sure you have enough expandableLg_kf700  memory to store all the songs. The exact handsets the service will run on are still under wraps for now but it's sure to be a big hit with the music junkies. Perhaps it'll be on the new KF600 and KF700 which have been announced out here. Both are touch screen numbers whereby the main menu changes depending on what you want to do- whether its listening to music, watching video clips or sending a simple text message. Both of these should be reaching UK shores at the end of the month.

The iPhone has certainly come up against some renewed competition this year at the Mobile World Congress. Samsung has thrown its latest contender into the ring with the announcement of the F480. Looking not too dissimilar to the iPhone, the F480 has the familiar touch screen features of other competitors such as the LG Prada and Armani phones. However, it packs a 5MP camera and speedy 3G connectivity to bring it Samsungf480 right up to date. There's also a very intuitive menu for scrolling through with your finger, and a built in radio. Not too long to wait for this one either- expected spring 2008.
So that's it for another year in Barcelona. As the handsets are all packed up and shipped back to their laboratories for more testing, it won't be too long before the finished things are lining the shelves of your nearest Carphone Warehouse store. For the latest news check out
