Win Nokia N81
PHONE giant Nokia have delivered a Double Whammy to Apple with the launch of a rival music service to iTunes AND a rival mobile to the iPhone.
The N81, which can download a massive choice of tracks from Nokia’s new Music Store website, got its first airing at a secret Maroon 5 gig last week.
And YOU could be one of the first to get your hands on it thanks to our fantastic giveaway. All you have to do is email us a link or short video of your favourite phone footage from a gig or festival this summer and the best one wins. Send your emails to comps@notw.co.uk by Saturday Speptember 8th at midnight. Usual rules apply. Editor's decision is final.
The quality of video shot on some mobiles is now so good that bands are keen to get hold of it to add to their websites. Maroon 5 guitarist James Valentine revealed that he uses his Nokia phone as a personal video diary of the band’s tours. “I’m always making little movies on my N95,” he said at the Ministry of Sound in South London. “I’d love to see stuff that the fans have shot on their phones. If it’s good enough, we could even use it.”
The new N81 is an 8GB music monster which will hold up to 6,000 songs and is designed to challenge the iPhone this Christmas.
And now that Nokia has launched its long awaited Music Store backed by the big music labels—EMI, Sony BMG, Universaland Warner—they really can claim to be offering an alternative to Apple’s iTunes.
The £300 phone, out in November, will play back music for 11 hours and has a standby time of 16 DAYS.
And it has one thing iPhone doesn’t have—3G which allows you to stream video to your phone. You can also easily “sideload” CDs with Microsoft’s Windows media. The mobile is also great for gameplay on its 2.4-inch screen.
THE new Nokia Music Store is a slick, well-designed website. Options including streaming, downloading, wish-listing and sampling are clearly displayed.
And you can tag songs on your phone for download next time you’re at your PC.
Synchronisation is automatic too, so if you download a song over the air to your phone, next time you connect to your PC, it’ll pop up in your library too. Tracks will cost 79p, the same as iTunes but you will be able to open an account which you can top up like a pay-as-you-go phone.

Great to see Nokia pulling out all the stops to get to the top of the Mobile mountain again. I was a staunch Nokia user until a friend gave me their Samsung D600 and since then I swore I'd never go back to Nokia but if I could win one of these little beauties I'd make the switch back without a doubt!
