Wenger: Djou better be ready

Djourou

ARSENE WENGER has warned Johan Djourou to prepare for regular first-team football when he returns from his loan spell at Birmingham in the New Year. Wenger surprised a number of Arsenal fans when he allowed his highly rated centre back to leave during the summer and join another Premiership club. His decision looked to have backfired on him straight away when William Gallas suffered a groin injury at the start of the season which ruled him out for a month. But the Arsenal boss is resigned to being without Kolo Toure for the African Nations Cup during the whole of January and is hoping Djourou gets some vital experience in the next few months to handle the pressures of playing in the Arsenal side. Wenger said: "I knew when Djourou left that Alex Song can play at the back and Gilberto has played in there already. "I wanted him to be experienced. I know Kolo will go in January to the African Nations Cup and I want Johan to play."

Should Wenger have been a bit more protective over Djourou, or was he right to let him leave aand gain some valuable experience?  Write your ideas below...

Relieved Zat shares fear

Zat

Aston Villa’s new £3.7m central defender Zat Knight has revealed he feared the club would scrap his move after he was arrested in a drugs raid on his family home in Birmingham. Knight, 27, who is set to make his debut against Chelsea today, was released on bail after being arrested along with his brother, Carlos. Knight, who was a Villa fan as a youngster, said: "I thought my dreams were slipping through my fingers. "It’s been the worst few days of my life when it should have been the best. "I’ve gone from being over the moon to going to all this speculation about me dealing drugs. "I am just grateful to the club and manager Martin O’Neill for standing by me. "After I was released I drove to Villa and I sat with the manager and told him the full story. "He was a bit upset in the sense he had signed a new player and already I was getting bad press. "All I thought was, what are they going to say - are they going to send me back to Fulham. "I haven’t done anything wrong, people who know me know I’m not that way inclined. "All I’m about is football, I love playing football. All I want to do is play for Aston Villa and put my jersey on."

Is Martin O'Neill right to allow the player to stay, should he have been punished by the club as a bad example?  Leave your comments below...

Sven impressed by Hamann

">

Sven Goran Eriksson planned to dump Didi Hamann when he took over at City because he thought the midfielder was over the hill. But the Swede was stunned to find the German has plenty left in the tank and has built his team around the ex-Liverpool man. Hamann only made 19 appearances last season under Stuart Pearce and Eriksson assumed his legs had gone. But he said: "To me he was a big surprise because from the outside last season I thought he was gone as he didn’t play very much. But as soon as we started I saw he wanted to fight, and he is fighting and his legs are going very well. I’m happy as long as he is doing the job he is doing. He has a football mind and has so much experience to share. Hamann is a maestro, he knows his football. There is no need to coach him very much."

Is Haman as good as Sven hopes he is, or was Pearce right in leaving him out?  Share your thoughts below...

Villa still want Bosingwa

Bosingwa

ASTON VILLA manager Martin O’Neill will make a new bid in January to sign Porto’s Portugese international right-back Jose Bosingwa. Porto put a £12m price tag on the 24-year-old in a bid to ward off Villa and Sevilla this summer. But O’Neill remains determined to land Bosingwa to fill the troublesome right-back berth at Villa Park and will make a fresh approach in the New Year. He had tried to sign Lassana Diarra on-loan from Chelsea as a stop-gap but the Frenchman moved to Arsenal. O’Neill doesn’t have a senior specialist right-back to call on after Mark Delaney retired and Aaron Hughes was sold to Fulham.

Should O'Neill fork out £12m in January for the porto star, will it be too late?  Leave your comments below...

Euell blasts Southgate

Euell_2

JASON EUELL has hit out at Gareth Southgate for not giving him a chance to prove himself at Middlesbrough. The new Southampton striker insists Southgate wasted his time at the Riverside Stadium and should have sold him in the summer. Euell said: "I was hugely disappointed with the way things have turned out at Middlesbrough. "If the club had wanted to sell me, I just wish they’d told me in the summer instead of leaving it late. "I thought I was going to be part of Gareth Southgate’s plans, having featured regularly in the pre-season games but once the season got underway, I was told that I was no longer part of the plans and could find myself another club. "Even with the departure of Yakubu, I haven’t featured in the first-team squad, so that was the clearest indication that the door had been closed on me. "I never asked to leave the club and just feel that I haven’t been given a fair crack of the whip. "If I had played maybe 20 or 30 games and not scored goals, then fair enough, I would have accepted my fate. But I’ve only started eight or nine games and haven’t been able to prove myself or let the supporters see what I’m all about."

Was Southgate right to let Euell go so abruptly, will Boro miss him in the squad?  Tell us your thoughts below...

Ketsbaia warns Spurs

Kets

Former Newcastle striker Temuri Ketsbaia believes his Anorthosis Famagusta side can cause an upset when they face Tottenham in the Uefa Cup. Ketsbaia, who became a cult hero following his three-year stint on Tyneside, has been managing the Cypriot side who also include former Southampton striker Marian Pahars in their ranks - for the past three years. Having caused an upset by beating Romanian cup winners Cluj in the last qualifying round, the 38-year-old insists struggling Spurs will hold no fears when the sides meet for the first leg at White Hart Lane on September 20. He said: "It will be fantastic for me to return to England and to face Tottenham is an honour because they are a great side, in a superior league, with a lot of tradition. But we won’t be going there with any concerns. We are the clear underdogs but in football, it is not always the favourites that advance. "We got the hardest team in the pot, so it’s a bittersweet draw but it will be a great experience to play against a Premier League side at such a magnificent stadium as is White Hart Lane. But people shouldn’t underestimate us, because we have European pedigree more so than Tottenham in our recent history! If there is a feeling that it will be easy for our opponents, then it is wrong because we are a proud team. We are going there to take a good result back to Cyprus."

Is Ketsbaia just being hopefull, or can his team really get a result at out of form Spurs?  Lets hear what you think, leave yur comments below...
