Davina's Masked Balls-up
BY LESLEY BRAIN
There were more masks and pretence last night than carnival in Venice.
My own confession is that I have been hiding from you the news that I joined the official Freddie fan-site - a youthful act that I would have mocked in my youth.
So it wouldn't have been inappropriate to have been sitting last night watching the television wearing one of those cardboard masks with a photo of Freddie on the front.
In my defence I think my support has been motivated more by a sort of tenuous sympathy for Freddie's family. Mr Brain says that those closest to a housemate suffer more than the actual housemate - but he would, wouldn't he?
Anyway Freddie's father had published on the site an open letter which talks about Freddie's background, the family's initial horror but ultimate support for the venture, and Freddie's dyslexia and its attendent problems.
Now I am less likely to support a housemate if there is a medical problem (I have to do enough of that in my 'real' life) and I probably wouldn't be able to stand five minutes of Freddie but I am an an absolute sucker for DIGNITY.
And Freddie showed a great deal of that last night. Even with the silly mask painted on him by a worryingly kind Marcus the best side of Freddie came to the fore.
He was generous towards those in the house, showed himself to be what he most values 'a good sport' and sensibly, when asked if he had changed, said 'we shall find out'.
He looked like he could do with a week's sleep. Trust me, Freddie, you won't get it. It will be interesting, I hope, to see what becomes of Freddie.
I have no interest in ex-housemates, having met them I know that we see the most interesting side of them in the show and in most cases BB takes silly people and turns them in to monsters. But I might keep an eye out for Freddie. But not when he does embarrassing daddy dancing or his painful singing.
It was Davina who wore most masks last night, layer upon layer. As she becomes more and more desperate to crowd please she flings one aside exposing another.
Let me declare that I have met Davina. She is an intelligent person, warm and attractive in her enthusiasms and the sort of person you would want at a party.
But last night we had the mask of VULGARITY...and...CRUDITY. Terribly unfunny and made me ashamed that I was putting Mr Brain through more horrors in the name of BB.
Then she even brought out the old one of ex-DRUG ADDICT... and.... ALCOHOLIC.... Don't do it Davina, please, you are so much better than that. If you feel you are too old for the show then leave, or stay and give your audience a bit more credit - they have some dignity even if you haven't.
But above all get rid of Brian Belo. The way he is treated takes one back to the days of Johnny Morris and rides on an old camel at London Zoo. We don't do that to people anymore.
I have also met Brian. We had a long and interesting talk when I found him to be analytical and sensitive. Unfortunately as well as being the biggest BB fan ever he is television- struck and will do anything he is asked. There is a narrow line, Brian, between one's hobbies and madness.
We can look forward to an interesting week. It's a dangerous time.
Beware, Sophie, still my favourite to win, we have seen what can happen in BB when a bully gathers cohorts around her, you might have got away with it this time but I'm watching you very carefully....
Triumphant Bea might well fall into the trap set by cunning LIsa who is fooled by no-one.
If Lisa, who is running the show, a bit like Carole BB8 but without the washing and hair and much much cleverer, decides to get rid of her then she might as well start packing now.
It depends who Bea targets next...if it's David then she really is done for.....I HOPE.
Did you see her face when she looked at Freddie? No-one has a right to look at another person like that, however annoying.
Her 'poor little me' face is pretty bad too but my award for her worst face is SMUG. That is one girl who could do with a mask!!!!!
