Sophie v Kris
Do I see a crack developing in the relationship that has touched the hearts of millions?
Is Sophie going off the bearded pretty boy? Will the Love Affair of the century end with a Ziggy/Chanelle-like showdown, as Sophie kicks down the diary room door, never to be seen again?
I ask, only because Kris is getting doubts. Not about whether he likes her, but whether she likes him. Late last night he complained to Karly that he always had to make the first move, and that although he'd been trying to lay off her a bit, Sophie didn't seem to have even noticed.
I never get these BB showmances. Well of course, I do. You go into the show, knowing that a romance can be sold to the mags afterwards, and is probably the easiest way of keeping your name in lights long after the BB house has been closed down for corporate events and in preparation for the January CBB. The winner might still be getting some press, but as for who came fourth or seventh - forget it!
Unless you have a romance going.
So of course, there's a rationale. But how about playing it a bit cool, perhaps? How about - sorry to sound all Mary Whitehouse about it - taking things slowly? The only romance that really worked in BB was the first - Paul and Helen. They spent weeks eyeing each other up, sharing warm loving glances from across the kitchen floor. They didn't even share a bed for the night during their entire stay.
In BB5 Stuart took a while before capitulating to the lovely Michelle. Even Maxwell and Saskia didn't start pawing each other until they were both up for eviction. Time was running out. But in BB7 Sezer was coupled up with Imogen inside the first few days. In BB8 the paint was barely dry on the plastic grass before Ziggy and Chanelle got all cosy.
All these romances have longs since gone, of course. But we did at least notice. I suppose you could say that Kris did wait for Saffia to go before making a play for Sophie. Once she'd gone there was no one left. And he's having to get used to stuff he hasn't in the past.
"On the outside I just pull birds, but I've had to get to know her in here", he explained to Sophie.
True love never did run smooth.
Actually, this could be the best thing for them. One other thing we know about Showmances is that they seriously impede the chances either of the duo have of winning. While they're together there's been very little of the banter Kris likes and expects from a relationship. And Sophie has, as Freddie noticed, been a bit of a sheep. Her full personality has yet to come out.
On the other hand, we've seen plenty of Freddie's. It's one of the ironies of the show that the victims tend to be popular, and the big group, who all think they are popular, are actually rather dull and samey. Lisa's crew aren't really being challenged at the moment, and it isn't doing them any favours.
Lisa just rules the roost, and Charlie, Sophie, Kris, and Karly just take it. Charlie actually had to ask for permission as to who he should throw the water over. None of them backed Freddie when he was obviously right about the garlic in his bust-up with Sree.
If any of that lot want to win they are either going to have to start being a little different. The most obvious way of doing this is by losing members. It may happen sooner than anticipated.
The easy prediction is that for the next three weeks the nominations will got Freddie v a succession of, and in no particular order, Siavash, Marcus, Rodrigo, and Sree.
Not necessarily! Sophie actually nominated Charlie the first time she could. The crack in her relationship with Kris - and it's a crack, nothing more than that - could be the first sign that their "Team" is more fragile than they had thought.
Which is absolutely what the Team needs if any of them are to go on and win. At the moment it's heading for an Individual's victory. The sheep all look too sheeplike right now.
