The Ten Worst Decisions of Big Brother – EVER!

We’ve all made mistakes in our time. Hey, we’re all human. But most of us try and do them behind closed doors. But Big Brother takes place in public ( well, it used to ), and Big Brother’s made plenty.

So what other than getting rid of the live feed are it’s craziest, dumbest decisions ever? Here they are in no particular order.

1. The first week twist. I know why they do them, and some of them, like last year’s wedding task, are fun. But there’s always a big risk that they mean we lose one of the more interesting HMs. Anouska in BB4, Bonnie in BB7, and Stephanie in BB 9 were early sacrifices. Anouska might have saved BB4 if she’d just had the chance. Did Steph actually even fail the wedding task? Who knows.

2. Double evictions. This particular stunt was first pulled in BB4. After Anouska’s premature departure, this was already gearing up to being the tamest BB of all time. Then one grim Friday night, they ejected Jon Tickle, followed, an hour or so later, by Federico, its two most provocative characters. BB4, already dying, died.

3. There’s only one thing worse than a double eviction. That’s a double eviction followed by a double interview. At least Jon and Fed got interviewed separately. No such luck for Carole and Jonty. They weren’t the first ( I think that dubious honour went to Michael and Spiral in BB7 ). Then, I could just about understand: they’d only been in there a few weeks. But Carole had been in there for months.

4. The House Next Door. They’ve tried it twice, in BB7, and BB8. Total nonsense. None of the newbies made an impact, they just delayed the eviction of the longer term housemates for a few weeks. Remember David and Shanessa’s double eviction after being in there precisely one week? Me neither.

5. The return of Nikki. BB7, which had one of the best set of housemates ever, was nonetheless full of diabolical production decisions. Its worst, was the decision to allow four housemates, including Mikey who had only just gone, to come back. The punters went mad, BB had to pay back their phone votes, and the number of people resolving never to vote again hit a new high.

6. Keeping Jayne. Nikki got evicted because BB decided to put everyone except Jayne up. Why? Because Jayne kept breaking the rules. Follow the logic. Jayne wasn’t exactly my favourite character, and she went the week after, but some pea-brained BB producer wanted her to stay. The price he paid was the early eviction of Nikki. Couldn’t he see it coming?

7. The golden ticket. Opinions are varied about Susie from BB7. I didn’t mind her, but the problem wasn’t so much her, but allowing her to choose who was up for eviction three days after she’d gone in. She chose the two most annoying people. Well, there’s a surprise. Exit Grace.

8. Turning CBB5 into a promotional programme for Jade’s new chat show. That went well, didn’t it?

9. The Charley Show. Charley was the only character in BB8 who made the news. She was also the least popular. Preferring to get newspaper coverage over producing a decent programme, BB kept her in far longer than she deserved. Cooking the books against Billie, and fake evicting were the low points. Eventually she did indeed get evicted the usual way, by which time it was too late.

10. Giving Liam a hundred thousand pounds in BB8. He’d only been in there five days. A slow, lethargic programme got just the shot in the arm it needed. Not.

I could go on…
